Maybe this topic will wake everyone up in this blog. I just read a little about  ISO 56002. What would this buy for IT organizations? Is anyone out there following it? Would it help innovation in analytics? Is it anything like ISO 5000?

This is a great topic Ben and thanks for sharing! I’m also going to share with our data science community to see if any of our more IT focused members have any insight.

    Thanks again!

    Ben,
This comment was very timely. We are working through ideas about how to get business units interested in sharing business problems in a group so we can identify solutions, including analytics and share ideas so we don’t duplicate effort or buy ineffective technology. I’ve done a little reading in Gartner about it. One of the comments that I particularly noticed was to make sure the innovations are in line with business strategy and goals. This comment hit home with me as well because it works hand in hand with establishing a PMO organization, planning, and budgeting. We find that operations often forgets that technology is also part of the equation and that data is always an input and/or output of whatever solution is being put into place. As a result, people and monetary resources aren’t planned for properly on the technology side.

    On another note…
    Merry Christmas!

    Hello again, @Liang,

I was just advised by my team that we will not be able to do an online interface for this meeting. However, we will share notes from the meeting with UAI members after the event. I’ll make sure to make you aware once the notes are available via this thread. I hope this helps. Thank you.

    Happy Holidays to you!

    Leslie

    Thanks for that reply.
What are your thoughts about ISO 56002?

I like your last comment ”As a result, people and monetary resources aren’t planned for properly on the technology side.” I believe that Utility IT organizations should be assigning a budget for IT R&D just as they do for Operations R&D. Playing devils advocate; Why spend the money if in the software business there is frenetic competition to employ new technologies. So let the vendors spend the money and go through the heart aches of R&D. In reality, it should be somewhere in the middle. The cost of innovation is balanced yet we are not totally controlled by vendors controlling what gets innovated and what not.
