Subject: Introduce YourselfHello All,
I am Ron Capute and I work as an Agile Leader for the FPL division of NextEra Energy. My teams develop software and analytics for the distribution side of the business. I have worked at NextEra for six years. I have worked in IT my whole career, starting out as a developer and moved into project management about 15 years ago.
I’ve lived in Florida for most of my life and I think I’m here to stay. My wife is a school teacher and both our son and daughter are in college now. I love college football and outdoor activities, especially being in or on the water. I am a musician and play trombone in a local community band. Also I like to play bass guitar, but I’m still learning. Barbeque food is my favorite, and I love to get out my smoker and spend long hours cooking all sorts of things. I have two dogs and that helps keep the house active while being empty nesters.
I’m interested in learning more about image recognition and machine learning as we are using these technologies to help prevent outages. I hope to learn about what everyone else in UAI is doing!

Subject: Introduce YourselfHello UAI Members,
I’m excited to try something new on UAI’s Member-Only Community. I want to not only make this forum a place for work and professional connections to take place on a daily basis, a place to ask each other questions, find answers and exchange knowledge and share information, I want to make it a fun environment to help us all de-stress, get to know each other a little better, and build bonds and friendships of a lifetime.
One of the coolest things about the UAI community is seeing members make connections with one another-it’s incredible to watch personal and professional relationship and friendships begin, grow, evolve, and last. The more relationships that are built between us and the more we get to know each other, the more valuable our work exchanges will become. We open up, we share more, we learn more and we all become so much better together!
Our community gets bigger every day. Many of you already know one another, while others are brand-new faces. I feel like it’s time that we (both new members and established ones) take a little time to introduce ourselves.
- Share your name
- Where you’re from
- How long you’ve worked in utility analytics
- I also encourage you to share non-invasive personal tidbits about yourself, i.e. what you like to do for fun, your hobbies, your pet peeves, or even your favorite memes, of course keeping it in good taste. Share things that will help us all get to know you better
I think it is important to have a little fun while we work and enjoy each other’s company. Please, use the UAI Member-Only Community as a place to work hard and play hard, enjoy, laugh, and have some fun.
I’ll kick us off, and please know you can include as much or little detail in your introduction. I’m wordy, so I went all out:
I’m Leslie, UAI’s membership & digital engagement manager. I’ve been with UAI for almost five months and I’m passionate about connecting members who share similar interests and challenges, and providing them with benefits, experiences, and tools they need to solve their problems and improve their organizations. I enthusiastically joined UAI to help improve and evolve the UAI membership value, as well as manage UAI’s collection of Communities. I am a strategic program director, dynamic business leader, and expert facilitator with over 20 years of experience. To learn even more about my professional work or to connect with me, visit my profile on UAI’s member-only site or LinkedIn. Please reach out to me directly at any time if you have questions or need anything from UAI. I can be reached at lcook@endeavorb2b.com or 646-693-5965.
I’m a Texas girl at heart, born and raised in a small town in north Texas, and then I headed out west to graduate from Texas Tech University (Go Red Raiders!). After school I moved to Colorado and I’ve lived all along the front range for the last 22 years, settling in Denver for the last six years, and I still have a Texas accent (You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can’t take the Texas accent out of the girl!). I’ve been married to my best friend from high school for 17 years, and we have two amazingly intelligent miniature Australian Shepherds, Indio and Charley, who keep us busy.
When I’m not working, I can be found traveling the world. We have been to 11 countries so far and we hope to continue to expand our adventures. I also like to leverage my high attention to detail and project management skills when dabbling in home remodeling and interior design. I come up with crazy design schemes and my patient husband implements my ideas, doing all the skilled and hard labor work. We are now close to the end of a complete remodel of our 1952 house. I cannot wait to be done with this project that has taken us about three years to complete…I can almost see the light!
I am truly excited to get to know ALL UAI’s members, so please reply to this discussion post to introduce yourself. Give a little of yourself and you will be surprised at how much you get in return through your valuable, purpose-built relationships via UAI.
Like I said, I have only been with UAI for about five months, but I’m already having so much fun and learning a lot from all of you! We have a lot of positive updates coming soon and we are evolving, with your input, to better meet your needs and goals, and I can’t wait to share these things with you. You must stay tuned into UAI’s Member-Only Community to learn more within the next few months. We will also be announcing some new things and some updates during the unique and exciting event we have coming in June 2020, UA Summit Reimagined!
Introduce yourself, learn more about others, and connect through UAI!
Stay safe and healthy,
Leslie

Thanks so much for introducing yourself, @Sandi! You are not late to the party! I welcome any and all responses at any time whether it is today, tomorrow, next week, next month or later. I hope we eventually get an introduction from every member or at least everyone will say “hello” via this thread. :-) I have big goals for collaboration and engagement for this community.
I loved your creative message about NBU and your references to being a 3-year old as it relates to your department. I got quite the chuckle out of your statement about sticking your finger in the light socket… such a funny visual as it relates to electric utilities.
Also, I know I’ve told you this before, but I must say it again… I LOVE the New Braunfels, TX area. So beautiful! It is such a lovely area in the perfect location.
Thanks again and cheers to you!

Hi Mary,
Thanks for reaching out. It is good to hear from a fellow Coloradoan. I hope you are safe and doing well.
I did check your subscription to the UAI open community and you are set to receive “no email” from that community discussion forum.
I would like to propose an idea to you. Instead of completely unsubscribing from the UAI online member-only open community, so you don’t miss valuable questions and comments from other UAI members, you might consider changing your “community notifications”. You can change your notifications to a couple of options: “real time” or “daily digest”. The daily digest only sends you one email per day with all conversations that take place within the open community. If you are set-up with real time communications, you will get an email every single time someone asks a question or when others reply to questions.
If you want to change your community notifications, you can go to your profile, click on “My Account”, scroll down and click on “Community Notifications”. Once within Community Notifications, scroll down to “Open Community” and click the green box to the right of it and select “Daily Digest”. This will help control the amount of email you get from the open community.
If you would like to get on the phone with me, I am very happy to help you with this action and/or provide you with a demo of the entire site and all the neat features it offers. You can really customize it to use it the way that works best for you.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you!
Leslie

Subject: Introduce YourselfHi
My name is Claude Godin and I am a Senior Principal with DNV GL in the Key Initiatives (KI) Department. KI roughly translates to being a plane most of the time doing interesting projects around the world, albeit my wings have been clipped due to the Covid virus.I got my start in utility analytics during my 24 year stint at Manitoba Hydro where I was part of a team that modeled river systems for hydraulic operations. Following that, I was charged with building a a new Load Research Department from the ground up where we were one of the first utilities to use new digital (recorders under glass) meters capable of collecting load profile data we required to model our rate classes and new load forecasts. After that, I followed deregulation around the world designing and implementing load settlement systems for market operations working for a major meter/meter reading company. Once deregulation petered out and Advanced Metering metering came into play, I built up EnergyICT’s North America operations until we sold the company to Elster in 2009 (implemented some of the worlds largest MDMs. Once the buyout was completed in 2012, and too young to retire, I decided to join some old load research colleagues at DNV GL/KEMA/RLW to work in a team that have made careers of data analytics. Besides doing some real interesting large scale analytics projects around the world, we are also helping our clients with making use of all the data available today, both in handling scale as well as linking all the disparate sources together.

Guess I’ll jump in here…I’ve been at SAS in out utilities group for about four and a half years and have been working in the utility industry in one capacity or another for 30+ years. Started as an analyst studying SCADA and GIS in the utility industry after coming off of a brief Army active duty stint and a transfer to the Army Reserve. As I like to say, I started as an infantryman who couldn’t spell “S-C-A-D-A.” One highlight in my career was working with Mark Johnson in co-founding and running UAI in its early years. A great experience, especially with all of the wonderful, smart, fun people I met in that leg of the journey. Thanks & stay safe!

Hello Everyone! I hope this note finds you all happy and healthy. (Sorry this is so late, Leslie!)
I’m Sandi Joralemon from New Braunfels Utilities in the AWESOME state of TEXAS. New Braunfels sits almost half way between San Antonio and Austin. We can eat fantastic authentic Mexican food on the Riverwalk and take a relatively short drive to enjoy the weird Austin vibe and funky music. Willie Nelson still plays nearby.
I’ve been in the utility industry a whopping 3 years and it’s never boring. I may have learned more in these last 3 years than I did in the prior decade. I can throw around the word “decade” easily because I’m old. We are writing our own analytics story at NBU; it’s a combination of self-help, drama, suspense, and comedy. We’ve learned a lot of lessons from people we’ve been in touch with at UAI and other organizations, but as with most 3 year olds, our department has had to learn some things by sticking our own finger in the light socket. Thankfully, that lesson is quickly learned.
I am thrilled to be involved with Utility Analytics Institute. We have so much to do, which is a great spot to be in!

Thanks so much for introducing yourself, @Mike! I am happy to see our solution provider members jumping in here, too. It was a pleasure to meet you at a couple of UAI events in the fall last year right after I joined the UAI team and learn of your past connection directly to UAI. Thanks for your continued support of UAI.
Enjoy your weekend!
