    Dear UAI Members,

You might have noticed things look different on our member-only website. We are excited to announce the improved member-only digital collaboration experience, now called UAI Connect!

UAI Connect has been designed with you in mind, using feedback from personal interviews we held with you in late 2019 and earlier this year. The site is now more user friendly and modern. Let me point out a few changes we have made to help you better navigate the enhanced site

    • We have a new URL for UAI Connect. Please bookmark the new URL: Connect.UtilityAnalytics.com. You can still get to UAI Connect via the old URL, but we wanted to better align the URL with the new name of the site.
    • Check out the new menu of options at the top of the page, as they have changed. The new menu options will help you find what you need faster.
    • The “Open Community” is now called “Ask Your Network”. Ask Your Network is a place to ask your fellow members questions, bounce ideas off your peers, or perhaps you need to do a sanity check on a project. Reach out via Ask Your Network on UAI Connect to engage UAI members and collaborate with your peers. Get answers from the brightest minds in the industry. Experience a new level of peer networking, share your knowledge and in return learn and grow with one another.
    • I encourage you to visit and update your Profile on UAI Connect. We have new demographic options available that will help you further identify yourself. The demographic information on your Profile is connected to the search function in the member directory, so you can now find and connect with members that have even more in common with you. Please note the BASIC SEARCH in the directory is different than the ADVANCED SEARCH in the directory. The Advanced Search has more options to narrow your search, including a search by demographics.
    • We now have an Events calendar on UAI Connect. You can get to the Events from the menu options at the top of the page. All UAI events will be listed here.
    • We better organized our Research + Resources! There is now a landing page where you can find all of our Research + Resources in a nice orderly fashion.
    • I recommend that you check out the Tips for Community Members. This page will help you learn about some things you might have missed. It will provide you with tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your UAI Connect experience.

We want your feedback! As you navigate around on the enhanced UAI Connect and you come across ways to make your experience even better, we want to hear about it. Please email us any feedback to info@UtilityAnalytics.com.

We also want you to know that we will continue making updates to UAI Connect, so check back often to find more new features and functionality. We have big plans on the horizon and we want to take you with us on this amazing journey! Make UAI Connect a part of your daily routine!

Thank you all for your input! UAI Connect would not be possible without you, our incredible members!

    Sincerely,

         Leslie

    Hi Peggy,

At Enbridge Gas, we have developed a probabilistic method to predict number of leaks on the distribution network. As these are ‘linear assets’ we can’t use traditional methods to estimate the probability of failure and needs a different approach. We looked at both asset-by-asset (i.e. taking each distribution main as the unit of analysis) and network level (i.e. one or more distribution mains with a unique characteristic) in predicting the number of leaks. Both models are based on reliability engineering concepts and statistical modeling including machine learning concepts for the later case. I presented the methodology in Utility Analytics Week 2018 and I can share the presentation with you if you can send me your email. The presentation is a bit large so I don’t want to send it out to the entire group.

Basically for this method to work, you need the asset population, reported failures classified by the mode of failure, and attributes such as age etc.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello UAI members,

Our COO asked us how we can find/predict gas distribution network leaks using data. Has anybody had any success with doing this?  What did you do?  What data did you use?

    Thanks!

    Peggy
