    Hello UAI Members,

Happy Wednesday and I hope you’re all having great starts to your week! I’m very excited to announce our brand new Safety Analytics Report, Finding Safety in Numbers, which is accessible to ALL UAI Members on our “Research and Resources” page HERE. UAI’s Safety Analytics Community began on January 28th, 2020 and has since explored several interesting topics and has welcomed perspectives from across the utility space. This report summarizes the ideas, experiences and information shared among group members (Jan 2020 – Oct. 2020) and will serve as a great introduction for those who are not yet involved in this community.

    Hello UAI Members,

Just a quick reminder that our LinkedIn Community Page is closing February 8th and any future LinkedIn communications will be on our company page HERE.
Our goal in doing this is to keep LinkedIn messaging to one spot, simplifying communications to members and followers.

It’s been great to see the growth on this page already and we hope you’ll take a minute and give us a follow!

    Thanks,

Subject: Our LinkedIn Page is Moving! What You Need to Know

    Hello UAI Members,

I hope all is well! By this time, many of you have probably noticed our two UAI LinkedIn pages (Our UAI company page and community/group page). Though both pages have been operating for some time, we will be closing out our LinkedIn community page and moving all of our LinkedIn communications to our one company page. Our goal in doing this is to keep all of our LinkedIn communications in one spot making our content more accessible to members and our social media audience.

If you have not done so already, please give our company LinkedIn page a follow HERE to ensure you’re staying up to date with our latest news on LinkedIn.

We appreciate your support and are here if you have any questions regarding UAI social media.

    Thanks!

    Good evening!

At American Electric Power we are starting to look at some of the imagery we are collecting via Drones to see the potential to leverage AI/ML to do things like asset or defect detection (many other types of use cases here, but this is the current focus).  What other companies are going down the path of looking at performing advanced analytics with imagery and video?  If you are asking the same questions or are slightly further down the road toward implementing some solutions, we would love to chat!

    Hi Kate,

I recommend you start by reviewing your tariff rules to see if there is a time limit on historical data you must retain for historical bill inquiries or challenges.  Next you might check with your load research, forecasting, and energy efficiency teams to see how much historical data they may value.  With utilities I’ve seen the full spectrum of retention values, from as short as two years to as long as seven years.

    Subject: AMI data retention?

    Hey Utility Analytics Friends,

How much AMI data do your retain? We currently have a large archive and are trying to figure out how much is actually useful for analytics. If you have a limited history, do you summarize the farther back history? We are debating between summarizing data past 7 years or purging it. I’d love to learn how others have handled this and if there’s really any use case for AMI data farther than 7 years back.

I’ve had good success in using transfer learning to train up deep learning models in the image space. happy to chat, of course.
