Kevin: How did you get into the utility analytics industry?
Member: I started in the Finance team of the utility and after a couple of moves landed in the customer analytics function
Kevin: What project have you enjoyed working on most in your career?
Member: We implemented SAP for our CIS a few years ago and I led the development and implementation of business, IT and data controls. It was an intense project and I got to learn the CIS system functionality thoroughly. This knowledge has been very useful over the years, in many roles and even today I draw on that knowledge to help the team deliver on customer analytics
Kevin: What has been your biggest professional challenge and how did you work through it?
Member: Maintaining optimal resourcing in an ever-shrinking organizational workforce continues to be my biggest challenge. I am good at building strong business cases and articulating impacts of under resourcing any function and this has helped me stay afloat
Kevin: If you could go back in time and give yourself one piece of advice before entering the utility analytics industry, what would it be?
Member: Utility business operations has many nuances and it is very important to spend time to learn these nuances to be able to support the business with data analytics. If you dive into analytics right away, you will be making mistakes for a long time.
Kevin: What would you like to talk to fellow colleagues and members about in UAI Connect? Or, what issues or topics would you like to see more discussions on in UAI Connect?
Member: I would like to see hear more conversations on improving data quality and historical data clean up
Kevin: Thank you so much for sharing with us and for being a highly engaged member of UAI!
Do you have any final thoughts, ideas, or comments you would like to share with your fellow UAI members?
Member: The key to analytical success is rich and good quality data. Without consistent quality data, we will not be able to leverage the technology and infrastructure developments and support business in ways we should. I would recommend all teams to focus their attention on improving data quality with sense of urgency. This will ensure both short and long term analytical success.
