    Hello UAI Members,

Happy Wednesday! The UAI and UAI Connect Ambassador teams wanted to introduce something new to spice up your traditional “hump day.” Our idea? Wisdom Wednesday! Break up your week with a new forum of lessons learned from your fellow UAI members.

The idea of Wisdom Wednesday is simple. Share a brief lesson or a quick hit on something you learned, found interesting, and might benefit someone else. Think of this like a glorified “show and tell”! With our members working on so many different projects, this should be a fun way to share the work you’re doing and exchange knowledge and best practices. No need to be formal. We’re only looking for a few sentences per entry.

Hey everybody.  I look forward to seeing all of the nuggets you have to share.  Here is one I hope you find useful.  Throughout my day of building dashboards in Power BI, I need to enter the link to our data lake when connecting to ingest data so I created a Word document that I would open every morning that had that link in it so I could easily highlight it, CTRL-C, the CTRL-V it into the URL field.  But the interwebs taught me a better way.  Write a .bat file and assign it a “hotkey” so that you can copy a text string to the clipboard for pasting just by hitting CTRL-ALT and a letter of your choosing.  I chose “S” because I can type all three keys with one hand.  Here is a “how-to” link http://www.yourtechtamer.com/blog/2011/08/can-you-create-a-shortcut-to-auto-paste-your-email-address-onto-the-clipboard/

One thing I learned this week… and I’m pretty sure I was late to the party… Is how helpful ChatGPT can be! I was struggling to come up with the words to say something in a professional manner and had been told that ChatGPT was quite helpful for those things (I admit, I didn’t believe them). So I gave it a shot and it nailed what I wanted to say! Needless to say, it’s something that I will be using from here on out! I can already see how this tool will be beneficial in our realm of work!

Nothing wrong with some “Wisdom Wednesday” on a Thursday ;-)! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I’ve found ChatGPT to be useful in several ways, and think it (and follow on AI) will be a great resource.  Each “chat” you have with it retains the context within that chat, so I’ve found it useful to start a chat with something like “This discussion will be around SAP’s IS-Utilities and Public Sector modules”.  I can’t guarantee it helps, but it seems to prime the pump.  Some use cases I’ve done:

    1. We’re updating our data catalog with definitions of the some of the fields.  I can ask ChatGPT to “Provide a definition for Contract Account within the SAP IS-Utilities module”.  This provides me with a definition I can use, whereas if I Google it I get links to various things that I have to weed through and likely aren’t relevant.  I even asked it if I could set up a hyperlink within an Excel cell that would could have the prompt for ChatGPT (essentially concatenate fields together to make the prompt dynamically), and it provided directions on how to do it.  That won’t work with our data catalog, but it was good to know.
    2. I’m converting some SQL code from SQL Server to Snowflake.  In Snowflake field names are case sensitive, whereas in SQL Server they are not, so I can start a chat asking it: “Convert this SQL Server SQL into Snowflake SQL, and for field names within double quotes capitalize the first letter of each word and make the other letters lowercase”.  It may sound silly, but it saves a lot of time going through each line of code and modifying the field names.
    3. And of course one of the most common use cases is to paste in some code where you’re getting an error, and simply tell it the error message you’re getting, and it will likely point out the error to you and then provide fixed code.

It definitely isn’t perfect, and once it provides results I often have to prompt it to go a bit farther, or clean some things up manually when it’s done, but for certain use cases it can be extremely useful.  One coworker was doing a write up of EV charging, and I went in and asked ChatGPT for a write up, and when I sent it to the coworker, he was like “Huh, that’s pretty good”.  As other companies come out with their own versions, this technology is going to explode.

I am also loving ChatGPT for wordsmithing and code translation. This week I translated PowerBI M query to python code. In any use I’ve discovered so far, there is plenty of human input and editing to be done to ChatGPT’s response, but it’s like having a very good and very fast intern available to help me get started.

I love all of the feedback on ChatGPT.  Please keep them coming or share any other nuggets you have.  Another Wednesday is right around the corner so you will have plenty of opportunity (and reminders) to share that wisdom!
