    Hello Utility Members!

We are excited about the changes the Executive Advisory Council has agreed upon for our new model of working groups.

First, we are changing the name of “Working Groups” to “Advancement Groups” to better reflect the deliverables of our combined efforts. The new “Advancement Groups” fall into four broad “Communities”:

    1. Customer Analytics (2nd Thursday of the month)
    2. Grid Operations Analytics (2nd Tuesday of the month)
    3. Analytics Architecture & Technology (3rd Thursday of the month)
    4. Asset Optimization & Performance Management (3rd Tuesday of the month)

The new model will be agile (occurring in three- to four-month sprints) and focus on a more specific topic within an “Advancement Group.”

The Customer Analytics Community will share utility experiences and use cases that demonstrate the role of analytics in understanding customers, deepening relationships, increasing satisfaction, and optimizing the performance of programs, products, services, and the channels through which they are offered.

Within the community of Customer Analytics, we will pursue the following Advancement Groups:

    • Predictive/propensity models
    • Understanding/changing consumer behavior
    • Customer segmentation

The Grid Operations Analytics Community will identify performance strategies, tools, and metrics to monitor grid health and mitigate system risk to drive operational efficiencies, maintain/improve system reliability, and reduce equipment failures and emergent/emergency work.

Within the community of Grid Ops, we will pursue the following Advancement Groups:

    • Grid analytics and the “utility of the future”
    • Real-time analytics
    • Outage management

The Analytics Architecture & Technology Community will explore architectural and technology options for business-driven data science and analytics using sound architectural technologies to support a wide range of options from business unit analytics to enterprise data science and deliver tangible business value.

Within the community of Analytics Architecture & Technology, we will pursue the following Advancement Groups:

    • Analytics self service
    • Building the business case for analytics technology investments
    • Analytics architecture/technology platforms

The Asset Optimization & Performance Management Community will explore ways to make utility operations related to the utilization of distribution, transmission and generation assets more efficient and optimized using data analytics and technology. The group will also seek to identify the right performance strategies, tools, and metrics to monitor asset health, and mitigate system risk to drive organizational efficiencies, extend asset life, maintain/improve system reliability, and reduce equipment failures and emergent/emergency work.

Within the community of Asset Optimization & Performance Management Community, we will pursue the following Advancement Groups:

    • Predictive and prescriptive data analytics and modeling
    • Metrics visualization
    • Use of emerging technology in predictive analytics

    Call to Action

To ensure the success of our new Analytics Communities, we need your help. We are looking for Group Leaders for each of the Advancement Groups. Your commitment would run the length of the Advancement Group (i.e., three to four months).

Your responsibilities: As an Advancement Group Leader, you will be asked to participate in planning meetings (1-2 per month) and the actual Advancement Group meeting. You will review and provide input on Advancement Group meeting agendas and presentations in close collaboration with UAI staff. Also alongside UAI staff, you will be asked to develop agendas and Analytics Community agendas and presentations for in-person pre-conference Advancement Group meetings.

If you can help, please email me at Barbara.lundin@informa.com as soon as possible. I’m looking forward to hearing from you and working together to make our Analytics Communities a huge success!
