Hi David – 

Here are a few things to consider showcasing: 

Alteryx Tools / Components: 

Spatial!  Discuss the relative ease of performing spatial operations.  With lat / longs of utility points and/or shapefiles or file geodatabases that define areas of interest, the opportunity to perform spatial matching, aggregation within polygons, buffering, grid creation, or distance related tasks can be performed by workers without specialized GIS skill sets.  Many tools are available for combining data sets within a graphical interface, but I do not believe many of them are as intuitive from the spatial perspective. 

Data Science!  The options within the palettes set aside for data science operations such as time series analysis, predictive, A/B grouping, and prescriptive components.  This should not dissuade groups with traditional data scientists who prefer R / Python coding as there are modules to support those modes of operation as well. 

Experian data!  For larger utilities, having detailed customer information available could be great use for customer profiling/ marketing outreach efforts.  The data isn’t cheap, but having the data readily accessible to analysts inside of a GUI tool is a powerful addition. 

Macro capabilities!  If there is functionality that you don’t see in the tool, but would like, you can create a macro to do it.  Maybe some examples from the CREW Macro package that have made it into one of your workflows. 

Tableau Components:

Pricing model!  Going to a subscription model is a big change for Tableau and I think a lot of people got turned off of the tool when it was relatively expensive from a per-chair perspective.  

Clean interface!  There are a million tools out there to drag and drop measures and dimensions and get *something* back out the other end, but the other ones seem to have interfaces that are not nearly as intuitive as what you see in Tableau. 

Alerts!  A problem we experienced (and continue experiencing) is that users ask for a dashboard, they look at it and say great, and then don’t log in for two weeks, or months.  With the alerting feature within server, you can set a benchmark, and have users notified when an empirical value violates your thresh holds. 

General Process:

Discuss the sausage making process in so much as a ‘use Alteryx to gather, aggregate, pivot/unpivot/crosstab/whatever your data’, and ‘use Tableau to render your data’.  

There are a million more but I probably just described like 4 hours worth of presentation.  Drink some coffee.
