I hope all is well! We have a very exciting Community Conversation planned for this month and hope you all can join us. On Wednesday, March 24 at 2:00 PM CST, we’ll be joined by Rebecca Afsar, Civil Engineer at Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) who will be leading a presentation on, Transmission Line Health Analytics. For more information on this session and our speaker please see below!

Rebecca Afsar – Civil Engineer at Western Area Power Administration

Rebecca Afsar is a civil engineer at the Western Area Power Administration. She is a specialist in transmission line risk assessments and asset criticality analysis. Her work has focused on engineering analysis to evaluate transmission infrastructure performance and provide tools to prioritize capital investment and improve maintenance practices. Her consistent and clear communication of asset management products continues to be her primary objective to ensure decision-makers have the information and tools they need to measure and assess equipment performance, improve maintenance practices, and develop capital budgets. 

Session Description:

Western Area Power Administration utilizes annual transmission line inspection records to drive its health analytics on 17,000 miles of transmission lines. This presentation will review how transmission line inspection data is collected using a mobile field application, integrated into WAPA enterprise asset management application, to drive in-house developed health algorithms. WAPA’s risk algorithms allow for an understanding of risk at both the structure and transmission line levels. We will review how WAPA is developing data visualization tools to improve products that highlight replacement and maintenance strategies. Finally, we will discuss limitations and future enhancements to WAPA’s transmission line risk analytics.
