Hello Asset Health Analytics Community Members,
I hope all is well! We are one week away from our January (2022) Asset Health Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Wednesday, January 26th at 2:00 PM CT, we’ll be joined by Mike White, Local Relations Representative & Data Scientist, and Justin Nettesheim, Sr. Asset Manager, at American Transmission Company who will be leading a discussion around “A Python Experiment: Identification of High Voltage Transmission Line Asset Renewal Initiatives Using Structure-Based Information.” As this discussion will be interactive, we encourage you to come prepared with questions and your insight.
Learn more about this session and our speakers below!
Session Description:
Analysts review several factors when determining if line maintenance or rebuilds are required. Many of these factors examine the status of a particular line as a whole, rather than based on variables specific to individual transmission structures (poles).
Based on more robust data collection and powerful new modeling tools, this project attempted to use machine learning and deep learning methods to automate the process of predicting the need for a transmission line rebuild based largely on information at the structure level.
The session will include information on how Mike used information at the structure and line level to train models based on a binary classification problem of determining necessity for a t-line rebuild. The presentation will describe the problem, methods used, results and conclusions, as well as next steps. All analysis was performed using python, so Mike will provide a high-level overview of the methods and techniques (not to include a deep dive into the code, scripting or python). Please bring your questions, as this session will include Q&A and open discussion.
Speaker: Mike White, Local Relations Representative & Data Scientist (American Transmission Company)

Subject: Upcoming January (2022) Community Conversation
Hello Asset Health Analytics Community Members,
Happy New Year and I hope all is well! With January just kicking off, I wanted to reach out and get you excited for our January (2022) Asset Health Analytics Community Conversation. On Wednesday, January 26th at 2:00 PM CT, we will be joined by Mike White, Local Relations Representative & Data Scientist, and Justin Nettesheim, Sr. Asset Manager, at American Transmission Company who will be leading a discussion around A Python Experiment: Identification of High Voltage Transmission Line Asset Renewal Initiatives Using Structure-Based Information. I’ll be providing more information on this session one week prior to our meeting but you can always learn more about each of our upcoming Community Conversations on our Events Page HERE.
Our latest IT update allows me to send meeting placeholders directly to your calendars through my alternate email address kpraet@sg.utilityanalytics.com. I sent out invitations for this community, and each of our other communities, at the end of last month. If you did not receive a calendar invitation let me know so I can help troubleshoot. As this seems to be an issue with some of our members’ firewalls, we recommend whitelisting my new email address kpraet@sg.utilityanalytics.com to ensure any invites don’t go to your spam/junk folders.
Again please let me know if you have any questions/concerns or do not have a calendar placeholder on your calendar.
Thanks and I look forward to connecting with you all this month!
