Group Description
The Asset Health Analytics Community will share and explore asset health analytics use cases to help each other advance their own specific solutions and needs as it relates to asset health. Through a use case-based approach, the community will explore the framework and necessary technologies to deliver the desired results/objectives of the use case. Some use cases may be to drive an overall asset class view of the health, condition, and risk while others may be very specific to drive immediate actions on individual assets.Members will encourage the use of all the data sources necessary to determine asset health, asset condition, asset risk, etc. to drive better and more informed business decisions as it relates to return on investment (ROI)/improved financial status, asset life cycle, and asset maintenance strategies.- Data sources used as input to the asset health/condition/risk can include, but are not limited to, satellite imagery, drone data/images, inspections, monitor/sensor data, AMI data, operations/outage history data, etc.Members will share utility experiences and use cases to help Identify, educate, and collaborate on and within the community to define frameworks for asset health/condition/risk assessment, and to enable better and more informed business decisions for each asset class. – Frameworks to discuss, include the available data for each asset class (now and in the future), velocity of that data, quality of data, and then the ingestion, cleansing, and utilization of that data in “models” that determine an individual asset’s health/condition and risk of failure.

Hello Asset Health Analytics Community Members,
I hope all is well! We are one week away from our July (2023) Asset Health Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Wednesday, July 26 at 2:00 PM CT, we’ll be joined by Dr. Joe Nyangon, Senior Power and Utilities Consultant at SAS who will be leading a discussion around, “Impacts of FERC Order 2222 on Asset Health.” As this discussion will be interactive, we encourage you to come prepared with questions and your insight.
Learn more about this session and our speaker below!
Session Description:
FERC Order 2222 has transformed the energy landscape by mandating regional grid operators to integrate distributed energy resources (DERs) into their wholesale markets. However, implementing Order 2222 presents challenges and changes in responsibilities for RTOs/ISOs, transmission utilities, and distribution utilities. These challenges encompass market readiness, reliability certifications, communication, data sharing, ensuring a clear division of roles between distribution and transmission market operators, and managing scheduled outages, among other important considerations. Key considerations involve transparency, accountability, and the role of analytics in supporting DER aggregation and distribution networks to enhance market efficiency. Join Dr. Joe Nyangon from SAS as he leads a discussion on the implementation and impacts of FERC Order 2222 on asset health specifically for distribution utilities.
Speaker: Dr. Joe Nyangon, Senior Power and Utilities Consultant (SAS)
Dr. Joe Nyangon is a Senior Power and Utilities Consultant at SAS, leveraging his extensive expertise to assist energy and utility clients in navigating electrification, grid modernization, decarbonization, and digital transformation challenges. He is an IEEE Senior Member, a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and a Harvard Business Review Advisory Council member. He has over 15 years of industry and academic experience in power systems, infrastructure investment, and energy economics and regulatory policy. He has worked with energy clients across the US and worldwide, including electric and natural gas utilities, state and federal agencies and regulatory commissions, such as the U.S. Department of Energy, FERC, public service commissions, and regional grid operators (RTOs/ISOs). Dr. Nyangon earned Ph.D., MSc, MPA, and BSc. Eng. degrees from Columbia University, the University of Delaware, the University of Greenwich, and the University of Nairobi. He actively participates in IEEE, IET, IAEE, INFORMS, and PMI professional bodies.
