Upcoming October 20th Data Science Meeting
Hello Data Science Community Members,
I hope all is well! This is just a quick reminder to join us next week, Tuesday, October 20th at 1:00 PM CT, for an exciting discussion around “A Python Experiment: Identification of High Voltage Transmission Line Asset Renewal Initiatives Using Structure-Based Information.” Mike White, Local Relations Consultant at American Transmission Company (ATC), will be leading the discussion and taking questions throughout.
Learn more about Mike and our session below!
Session Description:
Analysts review several factors when determining if line maintenance or rebuilds are required. Many of these factors examine the status of a particular line as a whole, rather than based on variables specific to individual transmission structures (poles).
Based on more robust data collection and powerful new modeling tools, this project attempted to use machine learning and deep learning methods to automate the process of predicting the need for a transmission line rebuild based largely on information at the structure level.
The session will include information on how Mike used information at the structure and line level to train models based on a binary classification problem of determining necessity for a t-line rebuild. The presentation will describe the problem, methods used, results and conclusions, as well as next steps. All analysis was performed using python, so Mike will provide a high-level overview of the methods and techniques used. Please bring your questions, as this session will include Q&A and open discussion.
