Public Group
Group Description
In its simplest form, data science involves developing methods of recording, storing, and analyzing data to effectively extract useful information. The goal of data science is to gain insights and knowledge from any type of data – both structured and unstructured, and includes the collection, organization, analysis, and presentation of data. The Data Science Community will go deeper within data science to examine machine learning and deep learning models that are either in early stage exploration or under development, with emphasis on collaborative exploration and knowledge sharing. The Community highlights and/or feature the novel use of models from other domains, models from common utility use case areas like load forecasting, engineering challenges and best practices, deploying models in production, and model validation. This community provides an in-depth review of data science best practices. Collaborate on a regular basis with other data scientists, data analysts, operational analysts, and IT Managers to learn how other utility members have overcome common challenges in data science – don’t miss out!

Enterprise Data Analytics Software
Posted by Brian Thompson on October 28, 2020 at 4:05 amCommunity,
I am new here and was hoping to solicit some feedback. UAI has given me some great info on different products available on the market for doing enterprise data analytics. However I was hoping to have a more value oriented discussion.
From all of the major products out there SAS, Oracle Itron … the list goes on. What might this community used to generate the most business value. Before we get wrapped around the idea of what constitutes “business value” I was hoping to keep it high level. Of course if you saved hard dollars and cents using a solution I am curious what you may have used to get there. But by any conscientious standard of value we can collectively muster I was hoping for your opinions.
I think UAI has the market cornered on surveys surrounding scalability and branding. But I was hoping to know how these tools are playing out in real time and making your companies better.
Note to the mods: This is my first post so if there is a different community that’s better suited for this question please let me know and I can repost.
Regards,
Brian Thompson

Hey Brian,
Evergy here…
We have got the most “bang for our buck” using Power BI in combination with centralizing our data into a “hub”. We use our existing enterprise tools to manage the data (ETL, SOA, Replication) to move data into our hub. Most users then interact with the “Hub” data using Power BI, R, Python or KNIME. We have had Tableau in the past but strategically, it didn’t make sense to have two overlapping tools (Tableau/Power BI). We also have “traditional BI” – OBIEE. We have our “pixel perfect” and traditional fact-dimension reporting coming out of that tool.
With the above approach we have satisfied 80% of the needs most business areas have for data science and it’s been EXTREMELY cost effective.
