Hello Data Science Community Members,
I hope everyone had a nice weekend! This is just a quick reminder to join us tomorrow, Tuesday June 15th at 1:00 PM CT, for a discussion around Using Time-Series Forecast to Capture Gas Pressure Anomalies with Yang Chen, Project Manager II at SoCalGas. I’ve included our Microsoft Teams credentials below and re attached our calendar placeholder to download. If you have any questions or issues joining please let me know.

Hello Data Science Community Members,
I hope all is well! We are just under one week away from our June Data Science Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Tuesday, June 15th at 1:00 PM CT, we’ll be joined by Yang Chen, Project Manager II at SoCalGas, who will be leading a presentation on Using Time-Series Forecast to Capture Gas Pressure Anomalies. As this discussion is interactive, we encourage you to come prepared ready to ask questions and share your insight.
Learn more about this session and our speaker below!
Session Description:
At SoCalGas, engineers used to inspect gauges regularly to monitor pipeline pressures. The newly installed Advanced Meter network and electronic pressure monitors (EPM) generate large volume of high-resolution pressure data. This is a great opportunity. The pressure sensor data can help SoCalGas to mitigate the risk of over-pressure incidents and protect our customers and pipelines. This is also a challenge. The data set is too big for manual examination. It is not integrated with other data such as AM and weather. Its patterns, trends, and correlations are not fully understood. And we don’t have advanced analytical methods for detection or prediction. In this session, you will hear a story where gas engineers, industrial engineers, data scientists, and IT together incubated data analytics ideas to reduce over-pressure incidents.
Yang Chen (Project Manager II at SoCalGas)
Yang Chen is a data scientist at Southern California Gas Company. He supports teams across all areas to solve the most complex business problems. He uses open-source software, cloud services, and self-developed programs to accomplish data analytics tasks, ranging from data reporting and visualization to optimization and machine learning.

As a reminder UAI has a new IT policy in place that prevents me from forwarding calendar invites directly to your inboxes. To work around this I have attached a copy of our calendar placeholder to this message which you can download directly. If you’re having any issues please let me know. Our Microsoft Teams link will still be provided via UAI Connect one day prior but we wanted to give you the option to download to your calendars ahead of time as well.
If you have any questions please let me know otherwise I look forward to connecting next week.
Thanks!
