  June 2021 Follow Up + What’s Next

  Hello Data Science Community Members,

  Thank you to everyone who attended our Data Science meeting earlier in the month, it was great to reconnect! For those unable to attend, we were joined by Yang Chen, Project Manager II at SoCalGas, who led a presentation on Using Time-Series Forecast to Capture Gas Pressure Anomalies.

  1.) Next meeting Tuesday, July 20th at 1:00 PM CT

  Next month we’ll be meeting Tuesday, July 20th at 1:00 PM CT for a presentation with Q&A and open discussion around  “Natural Language Processing Use Cases at SoCalGas: Named Entity Extraction, Automatic Redaction and Text Classification for General Counsel and Damage Prevention Documents” with Julie Zhang, Lead Data Scientist at SoCalGas.

  2.) Take the IoT and Edge Computing Survey

  We are collecting data for our new IoT and Edge Computing research project! Please help us by taking a 7-question survey and enter your name into the raffle to a $50 Amazon gift card. The survey questions include:

  – What are the primary motivations for utility’s adoption of distribution grid analytics?

  – Please indicate where your utility stands in using data from IoT devices to feed analytics for distribution planning, maintenance, and/or operations.

  – What use cases for grid analytics will provide the most value for utilities?

  – Please indicate where your utility stands in using edge computing for each asset as part of an analytics strategy.

  3.) UAI Excellence Awards 2021 – Nominations due June 30!
