    Hello Data Science Community Members,

Happy New Year and I hope all is well! With January just kicking off, I wanted to reach out and get you excited for our January (2022) Data Science Community Conversation. On Tuesday, January 18th at 1:00 PM CT, we will be joined by Sabine Devins, Digital storyteller, content maker, and speaker who will be leading a discussion around, Storytelling with Data. I’ll be providing more information on this session one week prior to our meeting but you can always learn more about each of our upcoming Community Conversations on our Events Page HERE.

Our latest IT update allows me to send meeting placeholders directly to your calendars through my alternate email address kpraet@sg.utilityanalytics.com. I sent out invitations for this community, and each of our other communities, at the end of last month. If you did not receive a calendar invitation let me know so I can help troubleshoot. As this seems to be an issue with some of our members’ firewalls, we recommend whitelisting my new email address kpraet@sg.utilityanalytics.com to ensure any invites don’t go to your spam/junk folders.

Again please let me know if you have any questions/concerns or do not have a calendar placeholder on your calendar.

Thanks and I look forward to connecting with you all this month!

    Hello Data Science Community Members,

I hope all is well! We are one week away from our January (2022) Data Science Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Tuesday, January 18th at 1:00 PM CT, we’ll be joined by Sabine Devins, Digital storyteller, content maker, and speaker, who will be leading a discussion around, Storytelling with Data. As this discussion will be interactive, we encourage you to come prepared with questions and your insight.

Learn more about this session and our speaker below!

    Session Description:

Behind every bit of data lies a story – but how do you tell it in a way that doesn’t just sound like you’re talking about a roller coaster? Or listing off a lot of numbers? Or – more importantly – how do you tell a story with data that people can relate to or use to make better decisions? Journalist and editor Sabine Devins will take you through the fundamentals of finding a story, crafting a story and presenting a story with examples from her work as the Managing Editor of the award-winning INFO.GRAPHICS digital magazine. We’ll look at the stories and how we applied certain principles and how and why to apply storytelling to your work.

Speaker: Sabine Devins, Digital storyteller, content maker, and speaker

Sabine Devins is a freelance content director and journalist who likes math. She’s produced stories for Handelsblatt Online, the Wall Street Journal, Voice of America, National Geographic, and Scientific American. She’s also done conceptual work for companies like Lufthansa, the Federal Environmental Ministry of Germany, and the Bundesliga. Born in Canada, she lives in Berlin with her family.
