Upcoming April (2023) In-Person Community Conversation + Meeting Location
Hello Data Science Community Members,
I hope all is well! We are only a few days away from our April (2023) In-Person Data Science Community Conversation (taking place at UA Summit) and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Tuesday, April 4th at 9:30 AM CT, we will be discussing the following two topics with UAI Data Science community members and other UA Summit attendees:
- Topic 1: “A Look Back at 2020, 2021, 2022 with COVID and What it Caused and Reactions by Region”
- Topic 2: “Data Science Democratization”
Speakers:
- Brad Gall, Sr. Data Architect (The Energy Authority)
- Chuck Hahm, Principal Data Scientist (San Diego Gas & Electric)

Session description:
Topic 1 will cover the following:
- The virus, virus variants and how utilities interact(ed) with their customer base, what customer programs were/are offered, how did/are load shapes changing, etc.
- What projects have not made it (below the water line) and are now above water line due to COVID and other challenges, like federal regulation changes, climate change bill, monkeypox, recession.
- What services has your utility continued or stopped due to COVID-19? How do these services look post-pandemic?
- How has your utility found work-arounds or changed your internal/external processes due to COVID-19? From field operations to internal work environments to customer interactions and supply chain issues.
Topic 2 will cover the following:
- Overall high-level starting discussion: What do you think Data Science Democratization is?
- How are others enabling people who are not data scientists to get engaged with data science?
- Ensuring business adoption of our Data Science solutions.
- Share stories of Data Science projects that have seen successful business unit adoption and why they have been adopted vs others that were difficult or not utilized by the business.
Speaker: Brad Gall, Sr. Data Architect (The Energy Authority)
Brad Gall is a Cloud Data Architect with over 20 years’ experience in Information Technology and Data Analytics. Working primarily with Microsoft data platforms, Brad has successfully delivered data driven projects across multiple industries in both corporate and consulting roles.
Speaker: Chuck Hahm, Principal Data Scientist (San Diego Gas & Electric)
Chuck Hahm is a Principal Data Scientist at San Diego Gas and Electric. Chuck’s data science experience spans a range of industries including medical devices, sensor analytics and cyber-security. Chuck holds an MS in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and has served as an adjunct faculty at National University in their graduate analytics program.

Please note this community conversation will only be taking place in-person at UA Summit, no virtual option will be available. We will again be meeting in the Julia Lee Meeting Room located at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown.
