    Hello Data Science Community Members,

I hope all is well! We are one week away from our June (2023) Data Science Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Tuesday, June 20 at 1:00 PM CT, we’ll be joined by the following speakers who will be leading a discussion around,“Using AMI Data to Detect EV Plugs.”

Brandon Lundy, Manager, AMI Systems Group, Alabama Power Company

Derek Dinsmoor, Data Scientist, E Source

Will Gifford, Director of Data Science, E Source

Learn more about this session and our speakers below!

    Session Description:

In an increasingly electrified world it is important to understand the behavior of new load demand on the grid. In this presentation, Alabama Power Company will present its collaboration with E Source to understand and predict the probability of a household having a level 2 EV charger.
A secondary objective was to identify and quantify the typical forms of L2 charging behavior within Alabama Power’s service territory.
Speaker: Brandon Lundy, Manager, AMI Systems Group (Alabama Power Company)
Brandon Lundy is the Manager of the AMI Systems Group at Alabama Power. His team is responsible for all AMI & MDM Systems ensuring quality dataflow throughout the organization. Brandon holds a BS in Wireless & Electrical Engineering from Auburn University and an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Brandon is also a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Alabama.

Speaker: Derek Dinsmoor, Data Scientist (E Source)

Derek is a data scientist passionate about developing creative approaches to challenging problems. He has several years of experience contributing to client initiatives for reaching energy goals through data science and supported E Source’s collaboration with APC on L2 charging detection.

Speaker: Will Gifford, Director of Data Science (E Source)

Will has spent 15+ years of his career applying statistical and machine learning models to complex problems in the energy industry, helping energy utilities make the data available to them more useful. He leads E Source’s demand side management practice, working with an amazing team of data scientists and engineers. Together, they develop solutions that transform customer analytics from one off research analyses to critical operational tools at utilities.
