    Session Description:

During this session, each panelist will share their enterprise analytics technology footprint and answer questions about it from the audience. Each panelist will also share, at a high-level, what business value their technology footprint has generated for their utility (i.e. how are your tools playing out in real-time and making your utility better? time or money saved, better customer experiences, better functioning tools, more efficient ways of doing business, etc.) and what tools/technology are being used that generated that business value?

Eddy Halter – Sr. Director, Enterprise Analytics at Evergy (Facilitator)

Eddy Halter is a 30+ year utility veteran, with experience in various areas including Accounting, Supply Chain, Accounting Systems, Customer Service and Billing, Facilities, and Audit.  His professional passion is information systems and data analytics.  He has led several large-scale ERP implementations and upgrades and recently was heavily involved in a corporate wide effort to roll out an enterprise-wide analytics initiative.  Eddy currently has functional responsibility for creating and implementing enterprise-wide analytics/automation strategies and practices at Evergy.  He has been involved in the Utility Analytics Institute for approximately 6 years

Apolinario (Sam) Ortega, Senior Engineer at Salt River Project (Speaker)

Sam Ortega is a senior engineer for Salt River Project, where he does performance and monitoring analysis of T & D assets. Sam enjoys learning new technology tools that can help him do his job quickly.

Scott Phipps, Sr. Data Science Engineer at Avista (Speaker)

Following a decade in the consulting business, Scott
Phipps began his 25-year career at Avista as a software developer, moved on to leading the company’s web development efforts, and then as an internal technical consultant on major systems implementations including Oracle CC&B, Oracle MDM, and Itron AMI systems. What began as a few questions about the impact of Covid-19 on our customer’s energy usage developed into a role on Avista’s growing data science team, where we’re focused on upping the game of our company’s business analysts and enabling more informed business decisions.

John Kinateder, Chief Data Scientist at AEP

John has been designing and developing advanced analytics for government and industry for 29 years, which has included the design of national safety studies, estimating the strength of materials for aircraft design, and monitoring energy trading risk.  He is currently the Chief Data Scientist for American Electric Power, where he leads the development of advanced analytics in a broad range of applications across the utility.
