Does anyone know of a standard data dictionary for the electric utility industry? I thought I had heard that EEI had produced something.
thanks!

Subject: Upcoming February (2022) Community ConversationHello Enterprise Analytics Community Members,
I hope all is well! With February just kicking off, I wanted to reach out and get you excited for our February (2022) Enterprise Analytics Community Conversation. On Thursday, February 24th at 1:00 PM CT, we will be joined by Ben Ettlinger, IT Data Analytics Architect at NYPA who will be leading a discussion around, “Creating an Analytics Community of Practice.” I’ll be providing more information on this session one week prior to our meeting but you can always learn more about each of our upcoming Community Conversations on our Events Page HERE.
Our latest IT update allows me to send meeting placeholders directly to your calendars through my alternate email address kpraet@sg.utilityanalytics.com. I sent out invitations for this community, and each of our other communities, last month. If you did not receive a calendar invitation let me know so I can help troubleshoot. As this seems to be an issue with some of our members’ firewalls, we recommend whitelisting my new email address kpraet@sg.utilityanalytics.com to ensure any invites don’t go to your spam/junk folders.
Again please let me know if you have any questions/concerns or do not have a calendar placeholder on your calendar.
Thanks and I look forward to connecting with you all this month!

I haven’t heard about anything like this but I too would be interested if someone knows about a standard for the industry floating around out there.

Hi Travis,
Unfortunately, I am not aware of any industry standard data dictionary. Only reference I found out there are data dictionaries on feeds to federal agencies, e.g., FERC. But the way I use data dictionary might be too specific for industry wide use.
Are you thinking that specific – data field/column names, data type, max length, primary/foreign key, null allowed? Or are you thinking of what we call business terms which are business words/phrases and their definitions linked to data assets? The latter provides common language for a utility or even different parts of a business unit. The former is going to be difficult based on various computer systems by all of the utilities out there.
Good luck.

Thanks Sam,
I am not sure what Nadia had in mind when she posed the initial question but I was thinking more along the lines of your latter suggestion of business terms their definitions linked to data assets.

Along the lines of what Sam and Travis have said I find the glossary on EIA’s site helpful too! Glossary – U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)
