Interested in knowing how other companies are rolling our PowerBi Service at an enterprise level. We  are now getting ready to implement Microsoft 365 and as part of that make PowerBi available to the whole enterprise. Wanted to connect and understand how others are organizing and managing at an enterprise level components such as: Workspaces, User Access, Security Groups, Apps, Audiences, etc. . Thanks in advance for your help !

Hi Jerry, our program is still growing and evolving. Here are the methods that we are employing today:

    • Workspaces – primarily being managed by the Business Intelligence team. One shared workspace that everyone at the company can access. BI Team creates new workspaces for each department.
    • User Access – Company has Viewer rights on shared workspace. The DATA Team (Center of Excellence) has Contributor access to it. BI grants department heads and DATA Team members Administrative rights to their own department’s workspace.
    • Security Groups – User Access is being managed through Azure Active Directory (now “Microsoft Entra ID”) groups at the department level. This is managed within the cloud (Azure Portal). You can also create these based on your on-prem resources (network drives) and have these flow into the cloud to provide one unified management structure.
    • Apps – we have not published any yet. In a previous role, these were primarily used for external audiences.
    • Audiences – related to Apps, which we have not developed yet.

    Hope that helps!
