UAI Utility Member Service Territories MAP – Per the request of EAC Members, UAI shared a map of the U.S. service territories that included a large majority of the UAI utility membership. This visual was a collaboration between UAI + MAPSearch, UAI’s sister company that offers GIS asset data for the energy industry. This map is a great visual that shows the strength of the UAI membership. We do not currently have data for Canadian utilities or other international utilities, but it is a great start. Please note that this visual is constantly changing as we add members, so we will update this map annually. ACTION ITEM: 1) We want to work with you to capture your service territory data to create a better representation of our utility members. If your territory is NOT included on this map, please reach out to me to help UAI capture your data to update this map of membership. For your help, our sister organization, MAPSearch, is offering 1 month free to their service. Please reach out to me, @Leslie, at lcook@utilityanalytics.com for directions on how to submit your service territory data for the map! Thanks!
Latest Utility Analytics Challenges, Industry Trends, Hot Topics – 2023 and Beyond
- ACTION ITEM: Continue to submit your latest utility analytics challenges, industry trends, and hot topics to add to the below list! You can reply to this discussion thread or send to @Leslie at lcook@utilityanalytics.com
- Generative AI (example: ChatGPT)
- Here’s an article about why Amazon isn’t allowing employees to use ChatGPT: Don’t Chat With ChatGPT: Amazon’s Warning To Employees | by Liquid Ocelot | InkWater Atlas | Jan, 2023 | Medium
- Research around security of using ChatGPT
- ChatGPT, potential project proposal… what if we created a utility based ChatGPT environment that we share across utilities. This would allow us to leverage the tool in a specific domain that we can control, may address security/proprietary issues, and allow us to leverage our common industry knowledge. Wants to use for code reviews, automation. Wants to maximize it, but utility has shut it down.
- Resource (Generation Fleet) Evolution
- Movement towards renewables
- What does this mean for future reliability, resource demand
- FERC 881
- Requires utilities to report transmission line ratings
- Working with transmission line providers.
- How do we govern this and the quality?
- Do you migrate this data into the cloud?
- There was a question about tags around this topic
- Impact of EPA policies and carbon emissions (also at state level environmental policies, not just federal)
- Federal and state are different policies
- How do you calculate the emission rate? Heat of generation unit or is it different? Common understanding
- How do you manage the risks?
- Seems big enough for us all to have conversations – may need a separate panel to dig deeper on this BIG topic
- Cloud Computing Speeds
- Rate Studies, other studies where we transfer data through the cloud.
- What are other utilities doing to transfer data?
- Job Description Sub-Committee Update
- We provided an extensive update to the excellent work that the Job Description Sub-committee is doing. Review the EAC meeting slide deck for a full rundown of this update, here.
- We updated our Job Description Sub-Committee folder in the EAC Library with the latest version of our job briefs and notes. Find the updates here.
