Action Items and Opportunities to Shape the Future of our Organization!
Dear Members of the EAC,
Happy Friday! I hope you are well. I wanted to take a moment to highlight some important action items from our recent Executive Advisory Council meeting in Kansas City. Your input and participation will help shape the future of our community, so please consider the following opportunities.
Your engagement is crucial in driving our collective success. Let’s continue to work together, inspire one another, and make a lasting impact. If you have any questions or require further information, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you!
1) Future UAI Training Opportunities: Your Feedback Matters!
We value your feedback on future UAI professional development possibilities. By taking part in this poll, you have the power to influence the training and certification programs we offer. Help us shape the future together! Please take this poll!2) Join the 2023 Sub-Committees!
Let’s build upon the great work we initiated in 2022 by forming sub-committees for 2023-2024. We are seeking dedicated members for the Membership, Training, and Content sub-committees. Your expertise and involvement will be invaluable. Submit your interest here: https://uaievents.wufoo.com/forms/call-for-2023-subcommittee-members/3) UAI Utility Member Service Territories MAP: Uniting Our Strength!
Thanks to the collaboration between UAI and MAPSearch, we have created a powerful visual representation of our UAI membership’s service territories in the United States. This map demonstrates the strength of our collective. While it’s a great start, we aim to include more data, including Canadian and international utilities, plus the addition of natural gas territories, etc. Help us update and improve this map by sharing your service territory data. Reach out to me, @Leslie, at lcook@utilityanalytics.com, to share your date and our sister organization, MAPSearch, will provide you with one month of free service. Together, we can create a comprehensive and accurate representation of our membership.4) Latest Utility Analytics Challenges, Industry Trends, Hot Topics – 2023 and Beyond!

- Research around security of using ChatGPT
- ChatGPT, potential project proposal… what if we created a utility based ChatGPT environment that we share across utilities. This would allow us to leverage the tool in a specific domain that we can control, may address security/proprietary issues, and allow us to leverage our common industry knowledge. Wants to use for code reviews, automation. Wants to maximize it, but utility has shut it down.
- Resource (Generation Fleet) Evolution
- Movement towards renewables
- What does this mean for future reliability, resource demand
- FERC 881
- Requires utilities to report transmission line ratings
- Working with transmission line providers.
- How do we govern this and the quality?
- Do you migrate this data into the cloud?
- There was a question about tags around this topic
- Impact of EPA policies and carbon emissions (also at state level environmental policies, not just federal)
- Federal and state are different policies
- How do you calculate the emission rate? Heat of generation unit or is it different? Common understanding
- How do you manage the risks?
- Seems big enough for us all to have conversations – may need a separate panel to dig deeper on this BIG topic
- Cloud Computing Speeds – Rate Studies, other studies where we transfer data through the cloud. What are other utilities doing to transfer data?
Thank you for your dedication and valuable contributions!Leslie
