February 2021 Grid Analytics Follow Up + What’s Next
Hello Grid Analytics Community Members,
Thank you to everyone who attended our Grid Analytics meeting last Wednesday! For those unable to attend, we were joined by Community Sponsor Brad Steere, Director Operations Analytics (Consumers Energy) and Srinivas Rajan (Consultant) who presented on “Applying Machine Learning for Outage Predictions.” During the meeting Brad and Srinivas discussed a Consumers Energy project that is developing a wire down predictive model. Their model provided two beneficial outcomes which were discussed in detail with our attendees:
-
Improve the activation and response to outages (Reduce CAIDI)
- Optimize the infrastructure investment to minimize emergent outages (repair/replace before failure)
For anyone that was unable to attend, you can catch up with a full recording and slide deck HERE. If you haven’t taken our post meeting evaluation survey, please take a minute and complete HERE.
Keep reading for a few quick announcements!1.) Next meeting (Wednesday, March 17):
Next month we’ll be meeting Wednesday, March 17 at 1:00 PM CT where Brad Gall, Senior Data Architect, Connected Analytics and Beth Massey, Director, Connected Analytics from The Energy Authority (TEA) will be presenting on, “Getting More Dollars from your CVR Events.” Please see below for a brief description and, as always, you can find out more information on our upcoming Community Conversations on our Events Page HERE.
“TEA provides analytics solutions to our utility members. A recent success was to provide one of our PJM members with a service known as Voltage Insights that provides financial analysis on savings potential from an existing CVR program. Our Voltage Insights service allows them to interrogate their CVR events and test ‘what-if’ scenarios on voltage drops by feeder lines to identify areas for distribution cost savings, maintenance needs as well as infrastructure upgrades. In this session we will discuss how we delivered this service to leverage the utility’s AMI data for increased revenue from their monthly CVR program.”
