    Hello Grid Analytics Community Members,

I hope all is well! With August just kicking off, I wanted to reach out and get you excited for our August (2023) Grid Analytics Community Conversation. On Wednesday, August 16th at 1:00 PM CT, we’ll be joined by Alex (Hengfang) Deng, Senior Analyst, Load Forecasting & Analytics and Kan Ito, Lead Data Scientist, Load Forecasting & Analytics at National Grid who will be leading a discussion around, “Geospatial DER Growth Modeling and Load Forecasting at National Grid.”

I’ll be providing more information on this session, including our Microsoft Teams credentials, one week prior to our meeting but you can always learn more about each of our upcoming Community Conversations on our Events Page HERE.

If you have any questions in the meantime please reach out to me at kpraet@utilityanalytics.com.

    Thanks!

    Hello Grid Analytics Community Members,

I hope all is well! We are one week away from our August (2023) Grid Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Wednesday, August 16 at 1:00 PM CT, we’ll be joined by Alex (Hengfang) Deng, Senior Analyst, Load Forecasting & Analytics and Kan Ito, Lead Data Scientist, Load Forecasting & Analytics at National Grid who will be leading a discussion around, “Geospatial DER Growth Modeling and Load Forecasting at National Grid.” As this discussion will be interactive, we encourage you to come prepared with questions and your insight.

Learn more about this session and our speakers below!

    Session Description:

Electric load forecasting and DER modeling play a vital role in maintaining grid stability and resiliency. Currently, the multi-level electric load forecast at National Grid captures the increasingly important interactions and uncertainties of the grid dynamics and incorporates a variety of technological developments, policy goals, macro-economics, as well as other factors. In this presentation, advanced geospatial modeling of emerging DER technologies such as electric vehicles and photovoltaics will be presented to demonstrate how different DER adoptions and load impacts are modeled at the feeder level by the Load Forecasting & Analytics team at National Grid.

Speaker: Alex (Hengfang) Deng, Senior Analyst, Load Forecasting & Analytics (National Grid)

Hengfang Deng, Senior Analyst at the Load Forecasting & Analytics team at National Grid. He holds a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University, a master’s degree in civil engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology. He has research and working experience in modeling artificial intelligence for urban science, large-scale location data analytics, and commercial building energy use. He currently works on feeder-level load forecasting and DER modeling.

Speaker: Kan Ito, Lead Data Scientist, Load Forecasting & Analytics (National Grid)

Kan Ito, Lead Data Scientist at the Load Forecasting & Analytics team at National Grid. Kan holds a master’s degree in Energy Engineering from UC Berkeley and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Kan worked as a Sr. Data Scientist for PG&E, where he developed wildfire forecasting models. Kan also has experience in assessing and optimizing energy storage system operations. He currently works on feeder-level load forecasting and DER modeling.
