Hello UAI Natural Gas Analytics Community Members,

Thank you to everyone who attended our August Natural Gas Analytics meeting last week last week on “Data, Data, and More Data, Oh My!” Glen Jessup (Asset Management Specialist at Enbridge) and Randy DeMarco (Manager of Data, Analytics, and Technology Information Services at Enbrdige) led this “data focused” discussion addressing many of the big data questions previously submitted by the group. Please find a full recording and copy of the slide deck in our online Natural Gas Analytics community here.

Next month, Wednesday September 16 at 11:00 AM CT, we have an exciting “show and tell” themed session all about Power BI. During this meeting, our presenters will share and provide a demo on how they use PowerBI to provide a new and/or exciting perspective on otherwise “boring” data. We will learn from each member:

    – For what items are you using Power BI?
    – What are you plugging into Power BI to give a new view on otherwise “boring” data?
    – How are you using Power BI to feature your data story?

Special thanks to Community Leader Eric Frank (Gas Planning Manager at Madison Gas & Electric), J.C. Zannis (Manager of Structuring & Analysis at Southern Company) and Will Culpepper (Structuring & Analysis at Southern Company) who will be presenting their findings.

Please keep updated on this session (and others) by visiting our Events Page on UAI Connect. The Events Page will provide a full snapshot of what’s planned each month by community. If you have any questions or issues accessing please let me know.

Please see below for a few other important announcements:

    • UAI Excellence Awards – Deadline Extended through August 31st:

For those of you who have yet to submit your nominations, UAI Excellence Awards are taking submissions now through Monday, August 31st. We’ve simplified the process by creating this short nomination form here which can be accessed and completed by you or an interested team member. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    • The Voices of Experience|Artificial Intelligence guide is finally live on SmartGrid.gov! UAI worked with NREL on this important guide:

Voices of Experience is an initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Electricity’s Advanced Grid Research group designed to bring utilities together to share their knowledge, insights and lessons learned through implementing the emerging technology that is reshaping the electric power industry.

The information in this guide came directly from UAI Utility members and other utility staff who are working through the challenges of building internal skill sets, investing in a new set of technologies to access and manage more data than ever before, and demonstrating its value to their organizations. Utilities engaged in developing AI capabilities have learned lessons and gained insights along the way that can be applied to other utilities preparing for the data-driven future. The goal of this guide is to provide information that might not be accessible elsewhere-the kind you might get from talking to a colleague at a neighboring utility.

    Download the guide here!

    • New UAI Communities Launching this September!
