I hope all is well! We have a very exciting presentation lined up next week, Wednesday September 16th at 11:00 AM CT, and hope you all can join us. This month we will be focusing on How to Use Power BI to provide a new and exciting perspective on otherwise ‘boring’ data, and are joined by a great group of utility presenters.

Please see below for a session description and more info on our presenters:

    Session Description:

Please Join the UAI Natural Gas Analytics Community on Wednesday, September 16 at 11:00 AM CT to learn how to feature your best data story through a “Show & Tell” style session. Erik Frank, Gas Planning Manager at Madison Gas & Electric Co. and Will Culpepper, Structuring & Analysis at Southern Company will share and provide a demo on how they use PowerBI to provide a new and/or exciting perspective on otherwise “boring” data. We will learn from each member:

    – For what items are you using Power BI?
    – What are you plugging into Power BI to give a new view on otherwise “boring” data?
    – How are you using Power BI to feature your data story?

Erik Frank will share examples of Power BI dashboards that are operations focused. Will Culpepper will focus on natural gas used for power generation.

    Our Presenters This Month:

          Eric Frank

Eric Frank is the Gas Planning Manager at Madison Gas & Electric Company in Madison, WI where they serve approximately 168k natural gas customers. At MGE, he is responsible for the growth and reliability of the natural gas distribution system, as well as managing the distribution integrity management program and coordinating long and short-range budget planning. In the grand scheme of things, he’s considers himself the “new guy” to most in the utility industry, but he also sees a growing number of younger people coming on board (and desiring data-based decision making)!

       Will Culpepper

Will recently joined the Southern Company family in 2019 after spending the first four years of his career with AT&T in Dallas, TX where he participated in their Technology Operations Leadership Program. Through the program he spent time optimizing the cellular network, managing a support team, and identifying cost saving opportunities in the wireline network. In his current role, Will supports Southern Company Commercial Operations as a data analyst and business intelligence developer.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in wireless engineering from Auburn University, Will’s roles at AT&T exposed him to the value of understanding and practicing data analytics. This led him to pursue a master’s degree in data analytics from Georgia Tech which he expects to complete later this year.

He and his wife, Susan, live in Hoover, AL with their English Springer puppy, Scout. Will enjoys letting loose on mountain bike trails, traveling the world with his wife (COVID permitting), and discovering new food recipes.
