Hello Natural Gas Analytics Community Members,
I hope all is well! We are just under one week away from our June Natural Gas Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Wednesday, June 16 at 11:00 AM (CT), we’ll be joined by Rachel Mattix, Sr. Data Performance Analyst at Duke Energy and Brian Wilkerson, Sr. Manager, AI Solutions at Duke Energy, who will be leading a presentation on Build or Buy? Reducing Damages Using Internal AI. As this discussion is interactive, we encourage you to come prepared ready to ask questions and share your insight.
Learn more about this session and our speakers below!
Session Description:
Duke Energy designed and implemented an 811-ticket risk ranking model as part of a partnership between the Natural Gas Business Unit and the MADLab. At the time, this service was being provided by a third-party vendor in Ohio and Kentucky, but the business chose to build internally for North Carolina. Rachel and Brian will walk you through the challenges and successes of their citizen data science partnership, from user-centric MVP to implementation and iteration in less than a year.
Rachel Mattix (Sr. Data Performance Analyst at Duke Energy)
Rachel Mattix, Sr. Data Performance Analyst, joined Piedmont Natural Gas in 2015 as part of the Leadership Development Program, working in Risk Management and SOX. During her time in the Natural Gas Business Unit, Rachel provided regulatory and gas accounting process improvement support before joining Gas Data Performance and Analytics. In the past several years, Rachel has partnered with groups across the business to optimize the disconnect for non-pay process, develop a mechanism for the field to track weekly performance and respond to customer needs, and is currently supporting the effort to achieve net-zero methane emissions by 2030. She has education in Communications, Design Thinking, Lean Six Sigma, and Agile.
Brian Wilkerson (Sr. Manager, AI Solutions at Duke Energy)
Brian Wilkerson is Sr Manager, AI Solutions and has been a team member of Duke Energy for 16 years. Throughout the last 4 years, Brian has been learning and leveraging Artificial Intelligence to accelerate Business Transformation. He is the co-founder of Duke Energy’s “Madlab” (Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence & Deep Learning), a team organized to be a “one stop shop” for delivering, deploying, and monitoring AI models. Brian has a passion for AI and loves to discover new ways in which it can solve business problems. He holds a Degree in Computer Science and vows to never stop learning!
