    I hope all is well! With April just kicking off, I wanted to reach out and get you excited for our
    April (2023) Natural Gas Analytics Community Conversation. On Wednesday, April 19 at 11:00 AM CT we’ll be exploring the following topics around Hydrogen:

    – “Hydrogen: Experience, Strategy, Research, Roadmaps, and Analytics”

    – “Enbridge Gas: Markham Hydrogen Blending Project”

    – “Burns & McDonnell: Hydrogen Production, Usage, Blending and Costs”

    – “SoCalGas: Hydrogen Opportunities in Southern California”

    I hope all is well! We are one week away from our 
    April (2023) Natural Gas Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Wednesday, April 19 at 11:00 AM CT, we’ll be joined by the following speakers who will be leading three mini presentations around the topic: “Hydrogen: Experience, Strategy, Research, Roadmaps, and Analytics”

    Session Description:

    These presentations will focus on multiple utilities’ journeys into hydrogen, including experience, strategy, research, roadmaps and analytics. What is the strategy? What research has been done and what results are utilities getting? What does the roadmap for hydrogen look like? What feasibility studies are being done and where will it lead into analytics? If utilities have any analytics in hydrogen, what do they look like?  
     
    Specific Speakers descriptions: 
     
    Enbridge Gas: Markham Hydrogen Blending Project
    Ala will provide a brief overview on the hydrogen-related projects, the Power-to-Gas facility and the hydrogen blending project at Markham, with a focus on the monitoring and reporting activities since commissioning. 
     
    Burns & McDonnell:  This session will cover various hydrogen production methods, Hydrogen usage in the industry (Current Projects the companies are focusing on). Also, it covers the blending challenges to the distribution and transmission systems. The material impact, leveraging the existing infrastructures will be discussed as well. Production costs and other information will be presented. 
     
    SoCalGas: This presentation will explore SoCalGas activities in clean energy and how initiatives like the  [H2] Innovation Experience and Angeles Link are opportunities to shape the future energy system in California. 

    Speaker: Ala Abusalhieh, Specialist, Stations and Low Carbon Transition Engineering – Enbridge Gas


    Ala Abusalhieh is a licensed professional engineer in the province of Ontario and holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Chemical and Bioengineering and a master’s degree in Engineering Design from McMaster University. Ala was a key member of the project team for Enbridge Gas Inc.’s Low Carbon Transition (LCT) project which delivered the first utility-scale hydrogen blending facility in North America. Ala delivered engineering designs for the natural gas regulation and hydrogen injection assets and provided engineering support for the successful construction and commission of the plant. Ala is accountable for engineering design of LCT initiatives at EGI including Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and hydrogen to support EGI’s long-term commitment to sustainability. 

    Speaker: Boualem Boudid, Senior Project Manager – Burns & McDonnell


    Boualem Boudid has been in the industry for over 15 years. Holding a master’s degree in asset management with Petroleum economics and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He was involved on a lot of projects related to oil and gas pipelines and facilities. He started his career working for an operating company (Pipeline and compressor stations). Recently he was involved in hydrogen projects (Production, storage, and blending), in addition to Carbon Capture and sequestration projects. 

    Speaker: Paul Lin, Clean Fuels Commercial Development Manager – SoCal Gas


    Paul Lin joined SoCalGas in December 2021 as the Hydrogen Business Development Manager. He is responsible for advancing the development of hydrogen infrastructure for SoCalGas. Prior to joining SoCalGas, Paul was the Audit Services Manager at Sempra. He has been with the Sempra family of companies since 2009 in different roles of increasing responsibilities including financial analysis and enterprise risk management. Prior to Sempra, Paul worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the assurance function. Paul graduated from Deep Springs College and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and is both a certified internal auditor and public accountant.
