Hello Natural Gas Analytics Community Members,
I hope all is well! We are one week away from our May (2023) Natural Gas Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Wednesday, May 17 at 11:00 AM CT, we’ll be joined by Mark Knox, Former Director of Resource Management Forecasting at Southern Company Gas and Jesse Woods, VP of Data Science at E Source who will be leading a discussion around, “Analytics for Leak Detection forecasting and workforce optimization in Natural Gas.”
Learn more about this session and our speakers below!
Session Description:
Leaks pose a critical challenge for sustainability and safety in natural gas. Applying data science to this problem more accurately predicts the types of leaks and the quantity forecasters can expect within a given service territory.
The results of this leak forecasting not only allow for better prediction (an improvement in prediction error rate from 20% to as low as 5%), but also better work/resource allocation – allowing utilities to more accurately forecast their resourcing needs within a service territory based on the expectation of upcoming leaks. Thus, reducing error rates, supporting call center optimization to handle expected incoming calls from leaks, and work resource planning. The net result: a reactive approach replaced with a predictive and prescriptive approach.
