Upcoming November (2023) Community Conversation
Hello Natural Gas Analytics Community Members,
I hope all is well! We are one week away from our November (2023) Natural Gas Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Wednesday, November 15 at 11:00 AM CT, we’ll be joined by Nathan Burke, Business Systems Analyst and Elin Henningsson, Business Systems Analyst at SoCalGas who will be leading a discussion on, “GIS in the Natural Gas Utility Industry.” As this discussion will be interactive, we encourage you to come prepared with questions and your insight.
Learn more about this session and our speakers below!
Session Description:
Since 2007 Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has been instrumental in supporting safety, reliability, maintenance, and compliance at SoCalGas and San Diego Gas & Electric. This presentation will detail three use cases of GIS in the gas utility industry, including GIS for emergency operations, emission reductions, and compliance reporting.
Speaker: Nathan Burke, Business Systems Analyst (SoCal Gas)
Nathan graduated from UCLA where he majored in Geography and minored in GIS. He applied his studies while he interned in local government and subsequently went on to work as a GIS Analyst with a geotechnical and environmental engineering firm. He joined SoCalGas in 2021 within the Enterprise GIS and Spatial Analytics team where he delivers spatial insights and data driven solutions through GIS. Nathan especially enjoys the creative process that GIS offers – visualizing and problem-solving using data.
Speaker: Elin Henningsson, Business Systems Analyst (SoCalGas)
Elin’s interest in GIS began as an undergraduate working at an on-campus political science research center. She has since earned a master’s degree from USC in Geographic Information Science and has been employed by SoCal Gas since 2016. She currently works on the Enterprise GIS and Spatial Analytics team performing compliance analysis, supporting the Aerial Methane Mapping project, and completing ad-hoc cartographic map requests, all using geographic data.
