2023 Safety Analytics Benchmarking Project – Take the Poll by January 31
Hello Safety Analytics Community Members,
We launched a NEW Safety Analytics Benchmarking Project. Read more details about it below. We are excited to get all utility safety professionals involved…not just utility analytics safety professionals…ALL safety professionals! If you are not the right person within your utility to get involved, please forward this to the correct person. You can have them reach out to me, @Leslie, at lcook@utilityanalytics.com if they are not currently involved in UAI… I’ll work to get them set-up and answer any questions. Thanks!
- Benchmarking project is being led by the Safety Analytics Community Leadership Team (UAI Utility Members)
- What is the problem we are trying to solve?
- Recordable incident rate (RIR) is easy to track, but it has flaws. We are looking for a better alternative to help track Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIF) and/or PSIF (Potential Serious Injuries and Fatalities). We want to find a better way to measure safety performance that is a better indicator of SIF and PSIF.
- We think the alternative is the EEI SCL definition, but we want to explore options with the members of the Safety Analytics Community.
- We want to have uniformity across our utilities, so we are measuring the same things in the same ways, and we want to do this through a dialogue with the UAI Safety Analytics Community members.
- Take the poll by January 31, 2023!
- Before taking the poll, review it with your team via the PDF document attached. This will help you understand what you need to collect for the poll before taking it.
- Direct link to poll: https://www.menti.com/alrvcrrb93ha, or
- Go to http://www.Menti.com and use code 3686 7286
- We will review results of the poll during our February and March 2023 Safety Analytics Community Conversations
- To help you complete the poll, collect the following data before starting the poll. All of the below info is available on the OSHA 300A log.
- Number of Recordable Injuries
- Number of DART Injuries
- Total Work Hours
- Total Number of DART Days
- The OSHA 300A log must be filed yearly for the previous year by February 1. An OSHA 300A is normally done for a specific location. Enterprises with multiple locations will have multiple 300A forms. Many enterprises combine all of their location data into a single 300A. This document will cover the entire enterprise and will contain all of the necessary data.
- Next steps after this poll:
- Review the results during the February and March Safety Analytics Community Conversations.
- Identify the top 3-5 safety metrics used, in addition to RIR, and capture members’ results for 2022 to benchmark.
- Work together to identify a better alternative than RIR to track Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIF) and/or Potential Serious Injuries and Fatalities (PSIF).
- Once a better alternative metric to RIR is identified, capture members’ results annually to benchmark (annually on February 1).
If you have any questions about the project, please reach out to me, @Leslie, at lcook@utilityanalytics.com.
Thanks so much!
Leslie
