    Hello Safety Analytics Community Members,

There’s still time to take the Safety Analytics Benchmarking Survey! Please find more details about the Benchmarking below.

    • Take the poll before February 28, 2023!
      • Before taking the poll, review it with your team via the PDF document attached. This will help you understand what you need to collect for the poll before taking it.
      • Direct link to poll: https://www.menti.com/alrvcrrb93ha, or
      • Go to http://www.Menti.com and use code 3686 7286
      • We will review results of the poll during our February and March 2023 Safety Analytics Community Conversations
    • We currently have 11 member responses to the survey! We would LOVE to get 30 total responses.
    • Benchmarking project is being led by the Safety Analytics Community Leadership Team (UAI Utility Members)
    • What is the problem we are trying to solve?
      • Recordable incident rate (RIR) is easy to track, but it has flaws. We are looking for a better alternative to help track Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIF) and/or PSIF (Potential Serious Injuries and Fatalities). We want to find a better way to measure safety performance that is a better indicator of  SIF and PSIF.
      • We think the alternative is the EEI SCL definition, but we want to explore options with the members of the Safety Analytics Community.
      • We want to have uniformity across our utilities, so we are measuring the same things in the same ways, and we want to do this through a dialogue with the UAI Safety Analytics Community members.
    • To help you complete the poll, collect the following data before starting the poll. All of the below info is available on the OSHA 300A log.
      • Number of Recordable Injuries
      • Number of DART Injuries
      • Total Work Hours
      • Total Number of DART Days
      • The OSHA 300A log must be filed yearly for the previous year by February 1.  An OSHA 300A is normally done for a specific location.  Enterprises with multiple locations will have multiple 300A forms.  Many enterprises combine all of their location data into a single 300A.  This document will cover the entire enterprise and will contain all of the necessary data.
    • Next steps after this poll:
      • Identify the top 3-5 safety metrics used, in addition to RIR, and capture members’ results for 2022 to benchmark.
      • Work together to identify a better alternative than RIR to track Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIF) and/or Potential Serious Injuries and Fatalities (PSIF).
      • Once a better alternative metric to RIR is identified, capture members’ results annually to benchmark (annually on February 1).

If you have any questions about the project, please reach out to me, @Leslie, at lcook@utilityanalytics.com.

    Thanks so much!

    Hello Safety Analytics Community Members,

I hope all is well! We are one week away from our February (2023) Safety Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Tuesday, February 28 at 2:00 PM CT, we’ll be joined by Bert Hargesheimer, VP Operational Support Services at CPS Energy who will be leading a discussion around,“Part 1: Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIF) Benchmarking and Community Discussion.” As this discussion will be interactive, we encourage you to come prepared with questions and your insight.

Learn more about this session and our speaker below!

    Session Description:

CPS Energy has been exploring safety metrics that help to create a better picture of safety performance in an effort to better inform leaders in where time spent making improvements will be most valuable. There are many ways to look at injury severity; DART, OSHA Severity Rate among others. Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIF) is an emerging trend with some varying definitions. We’ve done a survey to get information from utilities regarding what metrics they’re using and we’ll share the results and then have a short discussion about interest in longer term benchmarking safety metrics with this group.

Speaker: Bert Hargesheimer, VP Operational Support Services at CPS Energy

Bert Hargesheimer has spent 30 years leading various teams in Operations, Customer Service, Sales, and Administration.  At CPS Energy, Bert oversees the Enterprise Safety, Facilities, Fleet and Quality Assurance Teams.
