    Hello Safety Analytics Community Members,

I hope all is well! We are one week away from our November (2023) Safety Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Tuesday, November 28 at 2:00 PM CT, we’ll be joined by Jenny Taylor, Digital Transformation Lead, XR Lab / Virtual Crew at Duke Energy who will be leading a discussion around, “How the Utility can safely & effectively train and qualify virtually in high-hazard environments to reduce risk, increase retention and initiate cost savings.” As this discussion will be interactive, we encourage you to come prepared with questions and your insight.

Learn more about this session and our speaker below!

    Session Description:

Due to Digital Transformation leaders seeing the power of an emerging technology being capable of delivering fully immersive training experiences. It led to the genesis of the XR Lab as our in-house development team of VR and AR experts to deliver immersive, interactive VR training experiences and fully 3D-modeled training environments. This team collaborated to create the first virtual reality (VR) qualification experience to be used for Operator Qualification for the Duke Energy NGBU. This is an industry first! They designed, implemented, and measured the success of using VR technology to provide a robust, safe and effective method to evaluate a Technician’s ability to successfully perform land patrol of pipeline right-of-way in the midst of the pandemic given that travel restrictions prevented technicians to travel in person to complete this qualification, a “covered task” evaluation required by PHMSA (Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration). To date, the team has created over 30 training & qualification simulations used across the company and for external customers’ trainings, to successfully train and qualify employees in a safe, effective immersive environment.

Speaker: Jenny Taylor, Digital Transformation Lead, XR Lab / Virtual Crew (Duke Energy)

With over 16 years of industry experience, Ms. Taylor currently leads teams at Duke Energy supporting the Digital Transformation initiatives for customers in their training, qualifications and immersive experience needs. She currently works with the Virtual Reality initiatives for customers building successful, life changing immersive training, qualification, and mixed reality experiences. She has worked in various roles across the utility as a Chief of Staff for Customer Services (metering, billing, call centers, etc.), building business cases for New Product Development increasing EBIT, as well as Project Controls in the nuclear division. She spent her first decade working throughout the nuclear industry and has a passion for clean, reliable energy throughout the world.
