    Hello Safety Analytics Community Members,

I hope all is well! We are one week away from our January (2024) Safety Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Tuesday, January 23 at 2:00 PM CT, we’ll be joined by Sean Marden, Lead Data Scientist and Matt Pacenka, Manager, Performance and Reporting, NE Safety Organization at National Grid who will be leading a discussion on, “Machine Learning Helps National Grid’s Safety Teams Become More Proactive.” As this discussion will be interactive, we encourage you to come prepared with questions and your insight.

Learn more about this session and our speaker below!

    Session Description:

National Grid’s Safety and Data Science teams have worked together to find new ways to learn from safety data and empower efforts to improve safety culture and reduce serious injuries. Identifying real differences and changes within noisy data has required close collaboration and a number of different approaches. Using Duration Analysis, we have begun to highlight pockets of safety excellence and identify groups at elevated risk. Confidence intervals have allowed for improving the stability and usefulness of several safety metrics as well as helping to define testable hypotheses about worker safety. These efforts are now helping to inform our safety strategy and develop solutions which are more focused and impactful in preventing SIFs and reducing workplace safety risks over time.

Speaker: Sean Marden, Lead Data Scientist (National Grid)

Sean Marden is a Data Scientist at National Grid. He has previously worked in Data Science and Analytics roles in other industries including Ad-Tech, Public Health, and Finance.  A student of Math and Economics, Sean has also worked as a High School teacher and volunteers as the coach of a local Math Team.  He lives west of Boston with his wife and two sons.

Speaker: Matt Pacenka, Manager, Performance and Reporting, NE Safety Organization (National Grid)

Matt Pacenka currently manages a small data team in the Safety domain for National Grid’s New England Safety, Health, and Assurance organization. There, he and his team are responsible for the maintenance and reporting of a comprehensive database containing information related to Safety incidents, assessments, discussions, and culture. With background education in Physics and Data Science, Matt utilizes these skills during the development of Safety reporting and analytics throughout the New England business with the objective of generating proactive and rigorous data culture throughout the company.
