    Greetings Everyone,

Thank you, Tony! I completely agree with you. We encourage more organizations to participate. We strive to improve the quality and value of safety and this is great opportunity to open conversations between organizations. Participating is easy. Most of the information can be obtained from your OSHA 300 reports.

    Each entry can make difference.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

    Be safe!

    Thank you,

    Greetings & Salutations

I want to encourage each company that is part of the Utility Analytics membership to please participate in this survey.

Safety and Data Analytics professionals are trying to better understand a number of safety issues.

We have received a number of responses to date but not enough to say we have all the data we need.

The better the response rate the more useful this information will be to all participants.

Once again, please take the time to respond.

Thank you for your cooperation and assistance.

    Best regards,

    Tony

Subject: Safety Metrics Benchmarking Project – The Value of Benchmarking

    Hello UAI Members,

Performing benchmarks allows you to identify areas for improvement to get your company on par with the growth and success of other businesses in your industry. By assessing what other companies are doing successfully, you can develop a plan to boost performance and take advantage of opportunities. What are other benefits of benchmarking?

    Benefits of Benchmarking:

    • Get an objective view of your organization’s safety metrics
    • Stay on top of new and emerging trends in safety analytics/metrics
    • Improve the overall company culture in safety
    • Identify opportunities for improvement
    • Spur new ideas and innovation
    • Avoid becoming obsolete

Don’t miss out on this valuable opportunity to benchmark safety metrics with other utilities!

There’s still time to participate in the Safety Analytics Benchmarking Survey!

    TAKE THE POLL!

    • Take the poll NOW!
      • We will review results of the benchmarking poll during the February 28 and March 28 Safety Analytics Community Conversations! We will also discuss your interest in longer term benchmarking safety metrics.
      • Before taking the poll, review it with your team via the PDF document attached. This will help you understand what you need to collect for the poll before taking it.
      • Direct link to poll: https://www.menti.com/alrvcrrb93ha
    • We currently have 13 member responses to the survey. We want to get 30 total responses
    • Benchmarking project is being led by the Safety Analytics Community Leadership Team (Volunteer UAI Utility Members)…for the members, by the members!
    • What is the problem we are trying to solve?
      • Recordable incident rate (RIR) is easy to track, but it has flaws. We are looking for a better alternative to help track Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIF) and/or PSIF (Potential Serious Injuries and Fatalities). We want to find a better way to measure safety performance that is a better indicator of  SIF and PSIF.
      • We think the alternative is the EEI SCL definition, but we want to explore options with the members of the Safety Analytics Community.
      • We want to have uniformity across our utilities, so we are measuring the same things in the same ways, and we want to do this through a dialogue with the UAI Safety Analytics Community members.
    • Next steps after this poll:
      • Identify the top 3-5 safety metrics used, in addition to RIR, and capture members’ results for 2022 to benchmark.
      • Work together to identify a better alternative than RIR to track Serious Injuries and Fatalities (SIF) and/or Potential Serious Injuries and Fatalities (PSIF).
      • Once a better alternative metric to RIR is identified, capture members’ results annually to benchmark (annually on February 1).

If you have any questions about the benchmarking project, please reach out to me, @Leslie, at lcook@utilityanalytics.com.

    Thanks so much!

         Leslie
