UAI recently hosted Part 1 of a three-part interactive Real Talk Roundtable series about Generative AI.

    Here’s what we talked about:

It’s not just an IT thing.” – Marc Rosson, Enterprise Architect as Snohomish County PUD

Evergy is creating use cases centered around call centers, asset owners’ manuals, and HR documents. We jumped into the question of “What are generative pre-trained transformers (GPT)?” along with the Pros and Cons of building from scratch verses refining an existing large language model (LLM) by exploring how GPT answers specific questions.

Build a roadmap around your use cases and really evaluate it.” – Andy Kapp, Senior Data Scientist at Evergy.

Meanwhile, Liz Escobar-Fernandes from Duke Energy spoke about the approach they are taking to explore generative AI in a secure and responsible way.

Other utility members brought up additional insightful questions such as:

    • When should utilities begin exploring this technology?
    • How do utilities feel about bringing in third-party providers such as consultants and cloud providers to move their understanding of Generative AI forward?
    • How do we manage internal expectations and hold back usage that violates policies and contracts?

You’ll have to watch the video to hear the answers.

    • Coming up Monday, 8/28: Part 2: Generative AI: What are the options out there and how do we get them into production?
