I hope all is well! We are one week away from our October Grid Analytics Community Conversation (part of this year’s UA Week event) and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Wednesday, October 13th at 1:45 PM CT, we will be joined by Community Sponsor Amin Tayyebi, Data Science Manager at Exelon Utilities, who will be leading a discussion around, Improve Fault Location Accuracy for Historical Electrical Outage. As this discussion is interactive, we encourage you to come prepared with questions and your insight.
*This event will take place in-person at UA Week in Dallas, TX. If you cannot travel to Dallas for the event, we will also be hosting this session virtually, so you have an option to join in on this valuable discussion.
Learn more about this session and our speaker below!
Session Description:
Utilities are spending millions of dollars on storm hardening and other engineering solution deployments and leveraging outage and damage data for advanced analytics use cases such as storm prediction and vegetation spot-trimming. Accurate outage location is fundamental to supporting and enabling this work. Historical outage data records the geographical location where an outage was reported (i.e. the coordinates of the residence of a customer who called to report the outage) but does not reflect the actual location where crews worked to repair faulty/damaged equipment. Exelon integrated various GIS data sources called 1) mobile dispatch system (MDS) that enables crew to automate routing and scheduling processes efficiently, 2) outage management system (OMS) that stores the location of outage and assist in restoration of power, 3) GIS system provides the location of utility assets (i.e. poles, breakers, fuses and feeders), 4) Verizon Telematics allow complete connectivity to any vehicle with safety and security as the beginning. With integrating various data source, Data Science, Operation Dashboard, and ArcGIS API for Python, Exelon built an algorithm that improves the accuracy of outage location.
Speaker: Amin Tayyebi – Data Science Manager (Exelon Utilities)
AminTayyebi, Ph.D.is currently the Data Science Manager at Exelon. He has+10 years of experience as data scientist, data engineer and project manager in analytics by integrating geospatial data (remote sensing and GIS), data mining, statistics, machine learning and deep learning, programming as well as developing APIs to meet the needs of business applications and various technology partners such as USGS, NASA, USDA, EPA, Exelon, ESRI, Bayer Crop Science and Climate Corporation._________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Is there any further information on previous meetings you can provide concerning this topic?

I hope everyone had a nice weekend! I just wanted to send one final reminder for our upcoming session on Asset Health Analytics Use Case Identification & Prioritization (part of our Asset Health Analytics Community) taking place Wednesday, September 22nd at 2:00 PM CT and invite you to be part of the discussion. Due to the relveancy of this topic, we extend this invite to ANY utility member of UAI and encourage you to spread the word internally. For more info on this session, including how to get registered, please see below. Feel free to email me at kpraet@utilityanalytics.com if you have any questions or need help registering.
Session Description:
Join the Asset Health Analytics Community for part two of a two-part series on use case identification and prioritization on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 2:00 PM CT. Part two of this series includes an interactive, open discussion to learn what asset health analytics use cases members are working on, identifying valuable use cases you are pursuing or are wanting to pursue, and discuss how you prioritize use cases, i.e. What is your organization using to prioritize use cases? What does that process look like? How do you monetize the projects as they come in (earn revenue from or add value to the business)?
We will ask attendees to take a poll before the session to identify your use cases by category and type. We will use the valuable information captured during the poll to drive the conversation during this session. After the Community Conversation, we will share them with the members of the Asset Health Analytics Community via an Asset Health Analytics Use Case Repository.

I hope all is well! We are one week away from our September Asset Health Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Wednesday, September 22nd at 2:00 PM CT, our community leadership team will be leading part 2 of our discussion around, Use Case Identification and Prioritization. To get a jump start on this session, we encourage members to complete our short 5 question Asset Health Analytics Use Case Identification & Prioritization poll by Friday, September 17. By completing our poll and submitting your Asset Health Analytics Use Cases ahead of time we will have a great initial list to discuss during our call.
A few notes about the poll…
1) You will be able to submit more than one answer on questions 2-5.
2) Because you can submit more than one answer, you will see a “Submit” button on pages 2-5. To submit more than answer, click “Submit” and a new box will open to submit your next answer to the same question. If you don’t have more than one answer, click “Next Question”.A calendar placeholder for this community conversation was sent out earlier in the month via my alternate email address (kpraet@sg.utilityanalytics.com). I hope all is well! We are one week away from our September Natural Gas Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Wednesday, September 15 at 11:00 AM CT we’ll be joined by Miaad Safari, Supervisor of Integrity Assessments, at Enbridge Gas Inc. who will be leading a discussion around Comparing Quantitative Risk Modeling Approaches for Transmission vs. Distribution Pipelines. As this discussion will be interactive we encourage you to come prepared with questions and your insight.
Learn more about this session and our speaker below!
Session Description:
The utility industry is increasing its reliance on analytical models to predict the reliability and risk of its assets to improve safety performance and provide a means to more efficiently allocate resources. These models must be built with a strong consideration of the unique characteristics of each asset class such as the quantity of assets, sample size and granularity of data, and availability of mechanistic modelling methodologies. This presentation provides an overview of the Enbridge Gas Transmission and Distribution risk models and summarizes the similarities and differences in the Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) approaches.
Speaker: Miaad Safari – Supervisor of Integrity Assessments (Enbridge Gas Inc.)
Miaad Safari is an Integrity Engineer specializing in Risk and Reliability assessments. He is a strong advocate of enhancing integrity data analytics and the development of efficient and accurate risk and reliability models to gain a better understanding of the industry’s aging assets. After spending over a decade devoted to Pipeline Integrity at Enbridge Gas Inc., Miaad has developed an in-depth knowledge of integrity threat assessments, ILI technologies, fitness-for-service assessments, reliability models, and risk assessments.
As an active member in the industry, Miaad has previously presented at the Canadian Gas Association (CGA) and International Pipeline Conference (IPC) where he shared knowledge of assessment techniques that showcase the due diligence that is required to ensure public safety. Miaad holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and Management from McMaster University and is a Professional Engineer registered in Ontario.
