Pardon me for being a little tardy to the party (I’m sure you are all shocked)! My main personal goal for 2024 is to continue along my health journey that began (on a more serious note) last year. Down approximately 35’ish pounds, and a slew of inches… I hope to keep up the weight training (4-5 times per week) and add some more cardio (hope to get to 4 times per week… we shall see). And, yes, still drinking eggwhites w/ chocolate Nesquick powder every morning (2 cups and 2 spoons).
On a professional level, I hope to successfully lead our next phase of AMI Dashboards that will be completed. It will be a good challenge considering everything else that is already on the plate.

Hoping it’s a great year for everyone!

    Hello UAI Members,

Happy New Year! It’s officially 2024 and I cannot wait to kick off another amazing year with you all. I’m also hoping everyone took some much deserved time to rest/recover and I look forward to hearing your holiday stories over the coming weeks.

I’ve been thinking for awhile how I would like to start our #WisdomWednesday thread for 2024. Rather than sharing a quote, I thought we could use today’s thread to list out one goal we wish to achieve this year (either personal or professional). The experts always say writing down your goals will help solidify them but today I want to take it one step forward and have you share with your UAI peers! I’ll share two of my goals to get us started. On a professional level I have several new ideas/initiatives I plan to launch right here on UAI Connect (stay tuned). On a personal level, I hope to overcome a (growing) fear of heights.

Who’s feeling brave? Help me populate this thread by hitting “reply” below!

  • LOVE this, @Kevin! I know sharing goals can be a vulnerable thing, so thank you for sharing!  Copied below is a recap of my 2023 goals and what they rendered for me (I was amazed at the results of meeting these goals!) and my 2024 goals… I share for two reasons: 1) Writing down goals and putting them out in the universe will help you stay accountable and 2) I hope sharing my goals helps to motivate anyone that needs it!

Let’s have some fun in 2024!

  • Thanks so much for the recap, @Kevin! This was a great meeting to round out 2023 with a nice recap of the work you have accomplished and next steps for some of those items. If you missed this meeting, I recommend you watch the recording and download the slide deck and resources from it to stay up-to-date on what’s to come in 2024. You can watch the recording and access the resources from the library.

I want to add one note that is an action item. Please see below… Please note the volunteer opportunity to continue to help with Job Descriptions below!

Regarding next steps for the Job Descriptions Toolkit, we will be hosting some RealTalk Roundtables to dive into the Job Descriptions Toolkit. Here is what we know now that will help us prepare for these roundtables:

    • Where are we now?
      • Job Descriptions Toolkit + individual assets went through a full editorial review as of December 4, 2023
      • As of December 5, 2023, Toolkit + individual assets are now with UAI’s creative services department for a full layout and design
      • Target publish date is end of Q1 2024
    • Next Steps!  Get together to talk more about job descriptions in RealTalk Roundtables – what can you learn from each other?
      • Host these once the Job Descriptions Toolkit is published to the membership
      • Members do not want to segment into sub-groups. They want to come together with all members to discuss
      • Topic ideas for discussions:
        • Degree vs Level of Degree vs Non-Degree
        • Senior-level vs Principal
        • Hiring strategies
      • Facilitator volunteers – Recruit more volunteers + bring together the below to help plan and facilitate:
        • @Amanda
        • @Beth
        • @Josh
        • @Greg
        • @Dawn
      • I will be in touch with the above volunteers in January 2024 to bring us together to plan for these roundtables

If you have any questions, please reach out to me, @Leslie at lcook@utilityanalytics.com

    Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Hello UAI Executive Advisory Council (EAC) Leaders,

It was a huge pleasure to connect with you this week for our FINAL EAC meeting of 2023! Always happy to receive your ideas! This is a great idea. @Kevin will be reaching out to schedule some time to flesh out the idea and to start the list of use cases that will go on this list. And for those reading this message and wondering what “Algorithm Alley” is, please check it out here: https://connect.utilityanalytics.com/collaborate/algorithm-alley

On a different note, Kevin and I met with @Jenika from SRP yesterday to discuss an excellent idea on a contest to drive engagement and a little healthy competition within Algorithm Alley, i.e. a competition to predict the weather/temperature in a certain location on a certain date, and the closest to the actual temp will win fabulous prizes. :-) More to come on this idea.

I am excited for the enthusiasm @Andrew‘s idea has generated with all who have responded to this thread. We will be in touch soon to put something in action!

Please continue to reply to this thread with your ideas for Algorithm Alley!

Thanks all! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Yo man, I have another idea… I’m trying to get some action in the repository we put in place early this year (algorithm alley). What would you think of putting together a use case/utility matrix. (I hope this example comes through.) We could then use this to drive what use cases to put into algorithm alley… put them in… then make a call for experience sharing.

    Hello Data Science Community Members,

It was brought to my attention that an additional invite was sent out today for the 12/5 Community Conversation and I wanted to clear up any confusion. I’ve had an email issue for the last several days and a few emails and invites (including this Data Science invite) were trapped in my outbox and sent out by mistake. I’m so sorry for any confusion/inconvenience on this and thank those who emailed me to make me aware. To clarify, this invite was for the 12/5 meeting (not 12/7).

For those who missed, you can find a recording in our Data Science Library HERE. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to me at kpraet@utilityanalytics.com.

    Thank you!

    Hello UAI Members,

I’m excited to try something new on UAI’s Member-Only Community. I want to not only make this forum a place for work and professional connections to take place on a daily basis, a place to ask each other questions, find answers and exchange knowledge and share information, I want to make it a fun environment to help us all de-stress, get to know each other a little better, and build bonds and friendships of a lifetime.

One of the coolest things about the UAI community is seeing members make connections with one another-it’s incredible to watch personal and professional relationship and friendships begin, grow, evolve, and last. The more relationships that are built between us and the more we get to know each other, the more valuable our work exchanges will become. We open up, we share more, we learn more and we all become so much better together!

Our community gets bigger every day. Many of you already know one another, while others are brand-new faces. I feel like it’s time that we (both new members and established ones) take a little time to introduce ourselves.

    • Share your name
    • Where you’re from
    • How long you’ve worked in utility analytics
    • I also encourage you to share non-invasive personal tidbits about yourself, i.e. what you like to do for fun, your hobbies, your pet peeves, or even your favorite memes, of course keeping it in good taste. Share things that will help us all get to know you better

I think it is important to have a little fun while we work and enjoy each other’s company. Please, use the UAI Member-Only Community as a place to work hard and play hard, enjoy, laugh, and have some fun.

I’ll kick us off, and please know you can include as much or little detail in your introduction. I’m wordy, so I went all out:

I’m Leslie, UAI’s membership & digital engagement manager. I’ve been with UAI for almost five months and I’m passionate about connecting members who share similar interests and challenges, and providing them with benefits, experiences, and tools they need to solve their problems and improve their organizations. I enthusiastically joined UAI to help improve and evolve the UAI membership value, as well as manage UAI’s collection of Communities. I am a strategic program director, dynamic business leader, and expert facilitator with over 20 years of experience. To learn even more about my professional work or to connect with me, visit my profile on UAI’s member-only site or LinkedIn. Please reach out to me directly at any time if you have questions or need anything from UAI. I can be reached at lcook@endeavorb2b.com or 646-693-5965.

I’m a Texas girl at heart, born and raised in a small town in north Texas, and then I headed out west to graduate from Texas Tech University (Go Red Raiders!). After school I moved to Colorado and I’ve lived all along the front range for the last 22 years, settling in Denver for the last six years, and I still have a Texas accent (You can take the girl out of Texas, but you can’t take the Texas accent out of the girl!). I’ve been married to my best friend from high school for 17 years, and we have two amazingly intelligent miniature Australian Shepherds, Indio and Charley, who keep us busy.

When I’m not working, I can be found traveling the world. We have been to 11 countries so far and we hope to continue to expand our adventures. I also like to leverage my high attention to detail and project management skills when dabbling in home remodeling and interior design. I come up with crazy design schemes and my patient husband implements my ideas, doing all the skilled and hard labor work. We are now close to the end of a complete remodel of our 1952 house. I cannot wait to be done with this project that has taken us about three years to complete…I can almost see the light!

I am truly excited to get to know ALL UAI’s members, so please reply to this discussion post to introduce yourself. Give a little of yourself and you will be surprised at how much you get in return through your valuable, purpose-built relationships via UAI.

Like I said, I have only been with UAI for about five months, but I’m already having so much fun and learning a lot from all of you! We have a lot of positive updates coming soon and we are evolving, with your input, to better meet your needs and goals, and I can’t wait to share these things with you. You must stay tuned into UAI’s Member-Only Community to learn more within the next few months. We will also be announcing some new things and some updates during the unique and exciting event we have coming in June 2020, UA Summit Reimagined!

Introduce yourself, learn more about others, and connect through UAI!

    Stay safe and healthy,

         Leslie

  • Dear Members of the UAI Executive Advisory Council (EAC),

We want to express our gratitude for the 24 responses we’ve received so far in our ongoing job descriptions survey, which is open until 9/15/23. Your input is invaluable as we strive to enhance our suite of analytics job briefs.

Your insights have already proven instrumental in shaping the future of analytics job descriptions, but we need even more responses to ensure a comprehensive understanding of industry needs. As of 9/5/23, we have reached 24 responses, and we are eager to see your unique perspectives further enrich our data. We would like at least 30 responses.

Hello Asset Health Analytics Community Members,

I hope all is well! We are one week away from our March (2023) Asset Health Analytics Community Conversation and want to get you excited about the session taking place. On Wednesday, March 22 at 2:00 PM CT, we’ll be joined by Alex Hong, Remote Sensing Data Platform Solutions Architect and Product Owner and Hamilton Erridge, Remote Sensing Data Platform Program Manager at Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E). Learn more about this session and our speakers below!

    Session Description:

Faced with an aging infrastructure, two decades of drought, and the devastation of California Wildfires, the session will demonstrate how the use of remote sensing technologies and Esri solutions manages images and mapping to provide utilities with the necessary tools to maintain compliance, manage assets, and reduce the risk of wildfires.
Pacific Gas and Electric Companywill provide a discussion and demonstration of how their company is using sensor data (images, LiDAR, and videos) specifically for mitigating risks associated with assets causing wildfires in Northern California.
Speaker: Alex Hong, Remote Sensing Data Platform Solutions Architect and Product Owner (PG&E)
In the past 25 years with PG&E, Alex Hong has held a variety of positions in IT from Operations to Enterprise Architecture before joining the GIS COE to help establish the remote sensing program. He has a B.S. in Nuclear Engineering from U.C. Berkeley and is a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served on the U.S.S. John Marshall, SSN-611.
Speaker: Hamilton Erridge, Remote Sensing Data Platform Program Manager (PG&E)
Hamilton is leading the charge on PG&E’s data platform, and in response to the Northern California Wildfires, was responsible for automating the collection of asset imagery using drones and helicopters. He has over 15 years delivering high impact solutions, driving transformational change, and has a B.A. in communication from Chapman University.

    Hello Everyone,

I hope all is well! Last week we started a fun #WisdomWednesday thread here which I’m hoping to continue. During challenging times we often look for inspiration and one of the best ways I find myself getting inspired is through quotes from some of my favroite authors or leaders.

This week, I ask you help our growing thread by sharing one of your favroite inspirational quotes. If you’re struggling with ideas, Pinterest has been my go to but I’m hoping to see some unique ones and add some new ones to my personal list.

    Thanks again!

    Good Morning UAI Members,

Happy Wednesday! I was scrolling through Pinterest the other day when I discovered a great new idea for our #WisdomWednesday trend. The idea this week is to share an inspirational quote, either a quote you just saw or something you’ve had in your back pocket for awhile. Simply share your quote in the discussion thread below or (extra brownie points) if you have a graphic of your quote you would like to include. The goal in doing this is to create a thread we can refer back to when times get tough and we need an extra pick-me-up!

I’ll get us started with a great quote I found the other day. I look forward to seeing what you all have as well!

    Hi all!

Consumers Energy is looking into utilizing data sources such as AMI meter Data, historical outage data, and other SCADA enabled LVD line devices to develop an algorithm/model to predict when a service or transformer level outage is going to happen in the future.

We would love to connect with any companies that have already done this to learn more about what datasets you found useful, the granularity of the data utilized within your models, and any other lessons learned along the way.

Please let me know if you would be available to have a conversation!

    Thanks!

    Hello UAI Members,

Prompted by a discussion yesterday, I wanted to put a fun twist on #WisdomWednesday today. With podcasts becoming more and more popular, it can be almost too overwhelming to search through all the great content that’s already out there. I’ve learned about (and gotten recommendations) from so many of you and figured this would be a great/fun thread to get going today!

In the “Reply” section below, please share your favorite energy or data related podcast you’ve been listening to and you think would benefit others. Maybe there’s another podcast you’ve been listening to that falls into another category? We still want to hear from you! The idea here is to create a fun thread that we can learn and share with one another. Selfishly, I have a long road trip coming up and would love some new recommendations 😊.

Thanks again and we look forward to your responses!
